1. What is the life expectancy of the 9v battery that powers the silent circuit? How will I be able to tell when it's time to chamge it?

2. Can someone tell me the mfg date? The serial # is G17724.

Thanks!:)

I change em every month or two.

Costco sells a 10 pack of 9v for around 10 or 12 bucks.

Which comes in handy when the guitars start multiplying.

Keith, do you unplug your guitars between use? I thought the active battery life on the Silent Circuit was something like 1000 hours - that's three hours of playing every day for almost a year before the battery dies... I'm sure that piezos and EMGs would drain the battery faster, but with the Silent Circuit, the only thing that happens when the battery dies is the circuit stops working, so the 60 cycle hum on the single coils would increase slightly - depending on your playing environment, you might not even hear a difference... I change my Silent Circuit batteries very, very rarely - once a year during their annual Full Tear Down & Clean Up®

Yeah, I've heard the 800 hours plus thing too. Never seen the bunny banging the drum around my equipment though.

I unplug them... most of the time. Once in a while I'll be lazy and leave em plugged in, never overnight though.

Of the 4 balls I have that use 9v, 2 are lukes with emg's, and 2 are ss with piezos. At about a buck a battery and easy switcharoo, it's not really a big deal.

But I do probably change em more often than needed.

On the other hand, my strat with the EMG dg 20's requires the pickguard be unscrewed, strings removed, etc. A bigger pain to be sure. And I think I remember the literature for the dg20's saying like 300-350 hours of battery life.

Wish I could find my strings for a buck a set!

Thanks for the info.

I assumed it would be a long life as the Fishman preamp on my Martin is rated 3 years of average use (according to info supplied by Martin).

Jon - thanks for the date info - can I ask how you know this? Just curious.

As I bought the guitar new (all accessories were sealed, etc., and all was perfect), chances are the battery was sitting there for 3 years as well. The warranty card and other printed info in the case is not dated, so I can't be sure when it was packed. It came in the original EBMM outer box, but again, there were no dates on any of the printing or EBMM labels pasted on the box. BTW, I purchased it from MF when they reduced the sunburst down to $699. I placed the order on Xmas day, and by night, only black and candy apple are left (and for $1,169), so I assume I got the last one at that price. No complaints here!

Thanks again!

i know the EMG humbuckers and stuff (81,85,60,707 etc..) have 3,000 hour battery life. just make sure you unplug it when not playing. i got a pair of 81's installed in a guitar about a year ago and i still haven't change the battery. i play it alot too.

Jon -

I'm new here, so I wasn't aware you're an employee.:p I thought there might be a formula (like Martin) or public guide somewhere on the 'net (like Fender).

Regarding repairs, there is only one very minor issue with this piece - one slight finish crack (about 7/16") on the side of the body where the neck is joined ) - you can feel the unevenness. My feeling is not to address it now, but see if any other issues are discovered or develop while under warranty. Your opinion?

Also - there there a FAQ somewhere on how to use the locking tuners on this model? No instructions came supplied with the guitar, nor did I see it mentioned in the EB/MM FAQ. For now, I tightened the wheel buttons in the back and then tuned conventionally. They do work wonderfully - stay in tune most of the time even with trem use - but I'm not sure if I'm tuning correctly, plus I'm getting ready to change the strings soon and am not sure if I loosen the wheels first, etc.

Thanks again for your help!

Squawk...You have the right idea about your tuners. When you change strings just tune down and then loosen the wheels on the back. Now, about the crack...it is a warranty issue, and we would be more than happy to replace the body if that is what you want..these cracks are cosmetic only, but again we will take care of it. You can call me at 1 866 823-2255 ext 237 Mon-Thurs 7:00-5:30 pacific time...Jon

Thanks - I wouldn't ship it until the weather moderates - right now it's 7 degrees in Tenton, NJ, and wake-up temperatures are predicted to range from -5 to -10

I probably contact you in the Spring.

Thanks again!
