Has anyone here ever put 2 single coils in a humbucker slot? Since I am not terribly stoked with my neck humbucker sound on my Y2D, I was thinking about switching it with 2 single coils that I could wire separately through the 5 way switch -

Pickups : H-S1-(S2-S3)
5-way switch positions: 1-H; 2-S1; 3-S1+S3 (or S2+S3); 4-S2; 5-S3

What do you think it would entail on a rear-routed guitar like the Y2D?
Any foreseeable troubles? (I am guessing I might have to construct some sort of mounting ring)

Thanks

Single pickups close to each other have very little tonality if they are separately activated. Maybe some but negligible. Maybe switch out your humbucker to something else you like such as the Seymour Duncan P-Rails pickup Ty Tabor likes as you could flip between P-90 humbucker or single coil resulting in a lot of sound options.
