2 quick questions relating to the Floyd on my Y2D, be interested to see if anyone can shed any light...

1) Why do some Y2Ds (like mine) have a non-floating Floyd with no back routing, but more commonly they tend to have a backroute for upbend on the trem?

2) My trem arm is quite stiff, it doesn't move very freely. I loosened the grub screw behind the trem arm to try to free it up a bit and let it swing, but it doesn't seem to have made any difference - any idea how else I can loosen it a bit?

I believe the original version was not recessed. The axis floyd is also not recessed. Then the decision was made to change the floyd to be recessed. Maybe they changed the floyd design, or just a decision by EBMM and Steve Morse. I'm sure someone else has more information than I do.

If the trem arm is not swinging freely, you can always put a little graphite on the end. Is it the type the screws in or snaps in?

tbonesullivan is correct - the original version of the Y2D with the Floyd Rose was not recessed; at some point they changed to the recessed version. I'm not sure when that happened - there had to be at least 2 years of the non-recessed if not more; the Y2D has been out for almost 15 years now.

Thanks for that! I'm glad mine doesn't float, to be honest - far easier for string changes and palm muting, but I was just interested in the history of the model as I've seen a lot more Y2Ds with the recessed Floyd.

Mine's the older Floyd used in EBMM guitars where the arm isn't snap-in or screw-in - apparently you need to access the rear of the block to remove it, from what I've read on these forums.

Wait... you can't take the arm off? There may be a nut around the bottom of the arm that unscrews.
As I understand it you can, but it needs to be released from within the block itself - there's no way to remove it directly from the front of the guitar. Apparently common on EBMM Floyds until I think the last decade or so from what I've read. The EVH and earlier Axis models models with Floyds were the same, too. Mind you, removal isn't an issue, I just want it to move a bit more freely so it swings itself out of the way when I play.
