Hey There, I just bought my first stingray today, a 2002 3eq in black/maple and I'm loving it to bits.

There is one thing someone may be able to help me with though, it has an active/passive switch fitted - I assumed when I bought the bass that this was something someone has added at some point, but when I looked at the preamp the switch sits directly underneath the board (in between the middle 2 pots) and looks like it is directly wired to the pre (as in it's like it's part of the circuit rather than just bypassing it as I first assumed) and looks like it's always been there.

Here are some bad photos from my phone (can't find my camera at the moment)

Sorry for the bad quality but the camera on my phone's rubbish.

Basically I was wondering, is this a mod someone's done, a factory fitted thing or an aftermarket pre amp?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Chris

Thanks - whoever fitted it was certainly handy with a soldering Iron - it's super neat (not that you can tell from my appalingly bad quality pictures!!!)

It's actually suprisingly well balanced as well, hardly any volume difference between active and passive modes (not that I'm ever going to use the passive option but I guess it's good to have if you run out of power mid gig)

I can't believe how much fun this bass is to play - I think it may have ruined all my other basses for me!!!

very good tech who did that for sure.

as for the StingRay... well, JC did enjoy him some Sting Ray for Aenima I do believe and for a good part of his career prior to joining the greatest band in the land as well.

welcome and have fun with your Ray!!

Sprial Out!
