I noticed the white AL has a matching headstock. It looks great! I thought there was an issue (color matching) w/the Bongo in white, and that's why the color was discontinued on the Bongo. Will white w/matching headstock once again be available on all basses, or just certain ones? I may have missed it, but what are the neck profiles on the new models? SR, Sterling or Bongo, or something else altogether? Final question: were the Sterling By Music Man instruments displayed at NAMM?

As far as I was aware, it's only bongos that aren't white (and therefore have no matching white headstocks) because of the satin finish on the neck. Other headstocks (like the stingray) have a glossy finish when they are painted to match.

You know, I've been comparing this thread and similar threads in TB. There the reception to EBMM's new, ground up, non derivative basses is lukewarm but the excitement over Js and Ps in new colors and woods from "me too" makers is unbelievable.

BP is right, most of us are stuck in the 50s. Thank goodness I ain't.

Because of your post, syciprider, I went over to TB and read some of those posts. Wow, what a bunch of whiney know-it-alls. Dayem, it sure is easy sitting at home, hiding behind my computer, spewing forth all my knowledge and critiquing someone else's design. They even complained about how it will sound. Please, don't ever make me go back there again.

The one highlight, however, is where Jack posts explaining the "Big-Al." Once people realized the history between BP and AC, the whole attitude changed. Right on, Jack.

Well, thanks. I participate at TB for my own reasons, but it's at least in part to try to clear up misconceptions.

But it's true that certain types like to think EBMM is some kind of nameless, faceless corporate office somewhere, with layers of dilberts (I love that phrase), and it's helpful to remind them that it just isn't that way.

Thanks TBone, I just followed your lead and lost 15 mnutes I'll never get back. I pop over there every blue moon but it is hard to describe how stuck certain people are on things that are different. Hey, the 25th doesn't do it for me, but it is good for the bass-world as a whole. I am still out on Big Al but again it is good for the bass-world as a whole. I don't have to buy them but I very much appreciate them for what they are and what they do. If they work, maybe we'll see spill over into the Bongo (a Bongo with a tone block and a passive switch... oh yeah) or the Rays or Sterlings but if not that's cool too, just keep moving it forward.

I have one question, on the 25th anniversary model can people request quilt or flame? Or is it luck of the draw? I have a flamed 20th SR5 so if I did go for a 25th I would want a quilted top, you know, for variety.

But I'm derailing this and Jack is better at derailing than I ever will so I will leave that aspect to him. I just got my quote from Pete. Man, I was surprised at the price of the 25th and totally blown away by the price of the Big AL. Both are KILLER DEALS given what you are getting!
