This may seem like a stupid question but here it goes.
From a tone standpoint what are the differences? Obviously the normal silouette is h,s,h-but what does this one sound like??

Well the 20th's have the super secret tone block in them and from what everyone says they are tone monsters.

NorM or another Silo owner should be along to answer your question about the normal Silo. NorM, got some myspace video's of him playing, though if memory serves me right he changed the stock pickups to EMG's.

The regular Silo is rather strat-like with smoother, clearer tones and a bit of bite when you want it. The 20th Silo is more akin to a Les Paul Standard with a richer, fuller, deeper voicing.

Well, I have far more Les Pauls than EBMM guitars but perhaps I can offer my perspective. Honestly, my 20th sounds absolutely nothing like a Les Paul or a Strat for that matter. It doesn't sound like a hybrid of the two either, which is a good thing. Of course, any guitar with two humbuckers and a flamed maple top screams Les Paul but tonewise that isn't the case. Where the 20th excels is in giving a lucious tone that is rich yet clear. It has sparkle without being thin and warmth without being flat. I am not sure how they managed this with a dual humbucker guitar since every other guitar I have which is configured like tends to be "flat" when used in the neck and middle positions.

Yeah, sorry for not being more clear with my statement there. I only brought up the LP for comparison purposes as that's the closest to my ears, but it's definitely different to the Gibson offering.

I agree with philiprst.

now you just stop it ok?

this is the most highly aniticpated EBMM guitar yet!!! I cant wait!
For real! I have been anticipating this guitar since '04. The build numbers on these aren't going to be very high at all. (If I had to guess I would say less than 500 and I base that on the fact that I know nothing.)Sure they are out now but pretty quick they are going to be awful rare. I promised BP that if he built it I would buy 2 of them. Yeah all of my SiLOs are EMG'd but that's just me.

Well, I have something to say here :D! As the recent thread posted, BP was in the Manhattan Ney York, NY area yesturday!!! I knew about it when he posted that, but I had to work unfortunatly and could not go :(! But I found out that a 20th Silo appeard there, and I checked it out TODAY!!! It was just as beautiful cosmetically as was the tone, but I did not play it quite enough to go full out on a review!!! Whoever ordered one, it's like a prized family experience/secret. (I am a bit drunk, so that is all I can say NOW :D!) I am glad I have one on order with a trem and upgrade QUILT!!! I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry--but I'm gonna have to diagree with philiprst-------I think the 20th silo is firmly in the LP camp---to my ears anyway. That being said----I am not an LP guy, never have been---so I probably couldn't tell the difference tween em like an LP guy. As a str** guy---its the closest thing to a LP I've ever owned as a bolt on neck guitar. For comparison---just before I bought the 20th---I was lookin at CE24's and played a few nice ones----but they sounded like they had a blanket over them compared to the 20th.

No need to be sorry Paul, we can certainly agree to disagree and maybe learn something during the conversation.

I do entirely agree with you that the 20th Ann sounds like a blanket has been removed compared to the sound of other dual humbucker guitars, like the PRS (which I don't like anyway, but that's another story) and also the Les Paul (which I do like). The 20th doesn't sound at all muddy to my ears. In comparison to my Les Pauls the 20th has two main differences. The first it has a degree of chime and sparkle that is impossible to get with a Gibson. Second, it does not have the low end grunt of a Les Paul; that depth of tone that is typical of mahogany guitars. I will say that it sounds much nicer than any PRS I have played.

Perhaps this is because we each come from different perspectives. Paul. Me, from the LP camp and you from the Strat end of the spectrum. It's probably nature for us to highlight the differences between the 20th and the guitars we are used to.

I should also say that, over the years, I have become more sensitive to the role played by the amp. My Les Pauls sound great through my Marshall half stack but do not play well with my Mesa Mk IV. By contrast, the 20th loves the Mesa and doesn't play that well with the Marshall.

Best wishes

I believe that the EBMM site is about to go through a redesign, and that's why there's not really very much info about the 20th Silo or the Morse Y2D up there. At least the Y2D has its own subsite, probably because it's an ongoing model.

Piezo is an available option, but none have been made yet. We've been told they'll be ready closer to the end of the year.

One color, but with three options for the top: regular, premium flamed and premium quilted.

Precisely why I'm not buying one.

Good insight here. I tried a 20th with a Line6 and couldn't dial in a tone I was gaga for.

Thanks for the kind comment Keith.

Talking of amps: I tried out one of these new Hughes and Kettner Switchblade amps while I was in London on vacation. I was very impressed with its versatility and its ability to store as a preset virtually every setting on the front panel. Brilliant. Anyone else heard one of these?
