I have a 20th and it is my favorite guitar - the tone, sustain and palyability are incredible. I also played a 25th at NAMM and found it to be quite exceptional as well - plenty of tone and sustain there too. AJ is right about the switching, you have 10 options on the 25th compared to 3 on the 20th. So I guess that's the one 'advantage' the 25th has. The necks are basically the same.... that is they are the best in the business.

It ultimately comes down to personal preference. Both are top notch guitars. Would be nice to have both, maybe some day.

Hey Pete I think I need you to fedex me Redbursts 25th when you get it so I can check it out. I will send it to him the following day because Lord Knows there won't be any of those in central Florida unless I buy it:D

I have several 20ths. I love them. I think that the Luke is the sexiest of the EBMM guitars, but the 20th is the best sounding, easily.

Hey wolfbone, I saw you have one with a maple fret board. How do you like that one? I have not heard any speak on those and I don't find any youtube clips either.

As much as I love the 20th, I'll have to recommend the 25th. The 25th sustains for days couresty of the tone block AND the chambers. Also, the parallel settings lend to some really great clean sounds. WIth 10 pickup selections it's almost like getting 2 guitars for the price of one. With options like that how can you afford not to get one? :)

I swore this year I was going to wind my wallet in, but as time goes on and the more I look at the pics, plus all the making of.... I want a 25th....

I just need to see and play one in the flesh before I get my house deeds out!!!

When I spoke to Strings and Things a couple of weeks ago they said they had some coming......2009 is gonna be cool but expensive!

EDIT - just been landed with an £1800 car bill - now looking like Dec 09....
Credit crunch - sod it.... I'll worry about it in 2010!!

I like both 20ths - with maple and with rosewood fret boards. The maple has a little more snap to it (as you would expect) and (to my ears) sounds a little more like a single coil guitar with the selector switch in the middle spot (both pickups on). I never claimed to have great ears, but that's my impression.

Also there are US dealers that still have these in stock. I know my local dealer had a hardtail 20th with rosewood neck and matching headstock.

Let's try a different tack, to better answer Otto's question and to explore the difference between the two instruments.

In what situations, or for what kind of music, would one play the 20th over the 25th and vice versa?

For example, if one were to play country? BB King? Eagles? Journey? Metallica? Toto? Queen? etc.
