Guys I am on the ledge, about to take the plunge....one final question.

How is the clean on the 20th Silo? It only has a three way switch and that kind of troubles me, is it LP like? Hopefully it sounds much better than that.

For comparison sake, how does the clean compare to that of a Axis SS--5 way switch is key!

Thanks Again!

Well it's a 3w ay switch and there is no coil splitting on this beast. You get a nice warm, full, clear sound. Stop asking questions and buy the thing before it's too late, like ME :D!!! There is a video of one of the forumites playing the 20th on clean somewhere (tommyindelaware).

The clean is smoother, warmer, and more balanced than an Axis SuperSport. It is brighter than a Les Paul, and while it has a great low end, it is not muddy like the LP can be. Plus it feels way lighter than the LP :)

It's a beautiful warm clean, closest to a LP Standard IMO. It makes a Luke sound thin, and that's saying a lot!

I too was worried about the versatility - I love the 5-way on my ASS. I wish that EBMM would have included some more switching options and/or a middle S pickup on the 20th, but in the end the pure tone and wonderful playability won out and I placed an order even though I had the same concern as you.

I dont know about "thin". I got a Silhouette, which I have upgraded to my liking with fatter pick ups and 500K pots, and those solid steel saddles, but the Luke still sounds really full and big with the neck pick up. But as was said before, the 20th Silo is a "tone monster", and it did sound fatter......me like!!

holy moly, it must be unreal!!!!

Yeah, it is unreal. It's probably a Les Paul Custom or a very nice PRS before you get anywhere near comparing to the tonal quality of the 20th. I'd even go so far as to say that the 20th is even nipping at the heels of a custom Alembic with the attention to detail.

Expectations are high, but I know you're going to be reeeeeeeally happy when yours arrives. Tone, feel, and build quality are all there.

To answer the original question; the cleans are by far the best thing about this exceptional guitar. Rich, lucious.... yet with lots of sparkle and snap if you want it. I said this on another thread but the cleans on the 20th are so much better than any LP I have tried. Or PRS for that matter.... I own a few LPs so I am really familiar with that sound and there is only a limited similarity. The person who mentioned the LP Custom was on the right track, however, because compared to other LPs the Custom has quite a bit more clarity and brightness. However, "warm" is not a word I would use to describe the 20th's clean because to me that term implies muddiness or lack of clarity. I think "Rich" is much better.

I have to say that the 20th really suprised me. When I saw it I thought... uh-oh... an attempt at an LP clone and over the years I have come to realise that if you want real essense of the LP tone you need to get a Gibson. But in reality this guitar stands on it's own. If you are hoping for an LP substitute then I honestly think you will be disappointed. But if you are looking for a guitar with a unique voice and enormous versatility then you will be very very happy.

Check Guitar Center near you. The one near me had one. I think they're making their way into the retail channel.

i also think of a 20th piezo to add a collectible and unique guitar to my arsenal.
but when i hear that theres no splitcoil position i paused and now i am alienated.
i love the middle position of my JP a lot! and i use it often w/compressor for funky clean sounds. maybe i'd miss that. and its not a cheap guitar and its not possible for me to test one!
i am really lusting for one......but....hmmmmmm

Can Someone please explain to me why piezo would and is taking longer than a non-piezo model??? It's not like piezo is the new invention. With respect, I just don't understand why it would take longer to install a piezo.
