EXACTLY!!! hahahaha
The uncertain things are irrelevant and pointless, therefore I dont WANT to notice anything about them. hahahaha :D
To make this response about these guitars, I AM uncertain about one thing. Which is wether I really want the flame or the quilt. I know I ordered the flame, but the quilt is also so deliciously delicious. Oh well, flame it is on this one which I love. It would be nice to either be rich or to be an endorser.

Do you mean that because you played it and found it to be a problem or are you basing that on what you see.....curious is all.

good lookin baby, but these pickup-mounting-rings suck.
Dudley pointed the rings out to me when I got to see the prototypes. Their functionality gives the player the oppertuinity to adjust the pups and that is something you can't do with an axis. That may be true of the luke as well I don't know. Another option would be to put a pickguard on it but with quilted maple that is just silly IMNSHO.

Not fussing or complaining but discussing,
BlackZ,
What would you have done?

When I played the protos I found one that instantly felt like a guitar I could do anything with. Perfect, just perfect.

What I know is that I have been looking forward to getting a 20th anniv SiLO since I saw the 20th anniv Stingrays.
After I get my 20th anniv SiLO(s) EB will be hard pressed to come up with something to make me turn loose of my purse strings again......

I am here to offer you freedom! You get to actually communicate and articulate your personal feelings. You get to use words your friends may make fun of you for using. The super bonus point is that you learn that if you dont like something, that you can express those feelings without catagorically decimating the product. We will teach you how to understand the diference between not liking something and understanding that some people may really like. here is an example

Vanila Ice creams sucks.

the new black z
vanilla is bland for my taste, i prefer the depth and richness of a fine chocolate.

Welcome and enjoy your freedom!

This forum will make you a better person Blackz.
I also prefer the depth and richness of a regular mounting ring.
The good thing is EBMM guitars have so many models to choose from.

Those rings are stylish unlike many other rings ... I like em !
Makes the guitar quite unique. I also have nothing against the clear pickguard on the Y2D.

The rings give a modern vibe to a vintage looking instrument, I really like them. The guitar looks so good... If you don't get it just because of the pickup rings you're probably missing out on quite a fine instrument... Fortunately for you, there are plenty of other fine EBMM instruments with no rings ;)

Please explain to me.

What's the advantage of having a ring over a guitar with no ring...such as Petrucci???

also if might just be me, but woudn't cream or other color ring better suit/match the caramel burst???

Yes I still want it regardless of the ring or not, but just curious.

The ring allows you to adjust the pickup height, and bring it closer to or further away from the strings.

The Petrucci & Axis guitars have the pickups direct mounted to the body, so the only way to lower them is by routing the body, or raise them by shimming. Since the pickups on these guitars are already in the perfect spot, there is no need to mess with it!

THanks Pete,
But not many people, if at all from my understanding complain about the fact that their Axis or Petrucci pups can not be adjusted, or do they?

So, if pickup adjustment is commonly needed on Axis or Petrucci, wouldn't EBMM made those guitars with rings too?

If rings are big advantage, why not on other guitars?

again, I am not complaining but just trying to get educated.

thanks, David

Songman,

In the case of the pickup rings, it's about trying something new. No other MusicMan guitar has them, to my knowledge.

I don't think they're better than any other method of pickup attachment. That's like saying "humbuckers are better than single coils, so why doesn't MusicMan make all their guitars with humbuckers?"

The same thing can be said of other options... MM90 pickups are available on some MusicMan models, but not all. Rosewood or maple fingerboard availability is also dependent on the model, as are some colors, etc.

Dudley, Big Poppa, Dargin, and Drew the Rookie are having a real burst of creativity lately, and this is just one of the cool things they've decided to try.

Well the JP guitar is made of course to JP's needs and specs, so he has the pups directly mounted to where HE likes em. The Luke also has direct mounted pups. One other reason why I see the 20th Silo maybe having the rings to adjust the pups is because on the original Silo's you could adjust them due to the pick guard. However there is no pick guard on the 20th, so a new brilliant concept was created to make the LIMITED instrument even more unique among the tone block and that cool binding (respectfully) :D.

Side track: I know this was most probably asked before, but where can I get the solid steel saddles like the ones on the piezo equiped guitars??? Or ones similar to the ones on the JP model?? I looked at Stew Mac, and they have these pretty cool ones, but I like the EBMM ones more. Anybody?

Sterling spoke of this at the JP clinic a couple months back. Seems john didn't think the pup height was quite right and felt they should be changed a bit. Sterling then commented how he thinks the height is right but that the ANGLE John was picking from need the tweaking. Thus the significant arm carve on the JP.

Just remember EBMM is a company that wants to move forward and innovate. They don't want to live off a design from the 50's and put out overpriced anniversary models.
