ok so im thinking i'm going to make the change here very soon...

just want to double check on the spacing...

are both pickups F-Spaced? or is it just the bridge?

I'm looking at the Tone Zone and Air Norton combo... anyone try these in a 20th yet?

Only the bridge would be F-spaced. I've had an Air Norton in the neck before, and it definitely sounded nice. No idea about the Tone Zone...but sounds like a rockin combo.
You gonna get the chrome ones or something else? I realized that the chrome pups are really the best match for this guitar. I will probably get an AT1 in there at some point and the Air Norton as well. But I am enjoying the stock pups at the moment...in Eb it sounds awesome!

Just for fun, here is Travis Larson with a stock 20th Silo rocking out! Getting some sick tones! And Jennifer Young rocking the Bongo.

thanks for the link...

those tones are indeed sick

i really do enjoy the stock pickups... however i'm finding that i'm wanting something with a bit more output... but it's all reversible so that's good

and most certainly chrome covers... to give it the stock look.

I've had a tone zone/hum from hell combo in my trem 20-th.

Tone Zone was good, if You wanted to get John's sound off the "images and words", and more powerful far sure, but in general it was a bit bland (especially on the clean and crunch) and lacked the stellar sonic quality and wibe of the original PAF classics.

The 20th owns the Axis my friend...hotter pickups in the 20th Silo make it beast, in a good way of course. I had the Air Norton/Steve's Special in there and also PAF Pro/ EVO2. I liked the latter combo better, especially the PAF Pro in the neck. I think an AT1 in the bridge of this guitar will sound awesome...I rather like the stock neck pickup.

And yea, Travis Larson is awesome. I saw them I think last year (lost track of time) open up for UFO. I have all 4 of heir albums...great song writing and playing from Jennifer and Travis. If you guys like Steve Morse you will love all their music.

Travis is very talented...

i spoke with the tech guys at DiMarzio and he suggested an Air Classic (neck) and an AT-1 in the bridge so i might start there and see how it goes...

I've tried a few different pickups in my 20th Silo but I find the Stock pickups
sounds the best in that guitar. I'll take my 20th Silo over my Axis ...way more comfortable to play.

It's true...they really seem to be the perfect fit for the guitar overall. I just like a little more kick from the bridge humbucker...I will try the AT1 in the near future. I think that pickup will work very nicely for the tone I like. It is similar to the Air Zone which I have in my Silo Special and it is such an awesome pickup!

I called Pete (Dubaldo) today and ordered an AT-1 for the bridge and an Air Classic for the Neck... since the pickups i want (with nickel covers) are not typical stock they're going to take about a week to build them for me... so reports should be in soon... before i install them i'll do a sound comparison and recording of the stock bridge and neck and then do the swap and share the results.

I'm quite excited about the process... still debating whether or not i want to tap the coils... but i'll have some time to think about it.

That's awesome! I cant wait to hear the comparison and your review...especially the AT1 of course as that's what I want to do. I have a very strong feeling that you will absolutely love the tone, and will want to shoot yourself for even thinking about selling the 20th haha. Those thoughts went through my head a few times, but it's usually an internal conversation where I mentally kick my a**, and say to myself "stop this nonsense and play that amazing guitar".

LOL!!! only family could say something like that... LOL!!!

there's just something about the 20th that is incredible... and i agree that i could probably kick my own... well you've already said it so i won't repeat it... but yes... i had a standard and the 20th and i always picked up the 20th very seldom would i pick up the standard (not that its a bad guitar) but the 20th is just WOW!!!

i'll be sure to get a clean recording before i do any mods at all... this is going to be a fun process.

I put a BREED in the bridge of mine, and a coil tap. Nice.
BREED does not come with a chrome cover, so I took it off the stock pickup and put it on the BREED.

Isn't the AT-1 similar to a BREED?

its been a crazy week so there's a big delay in me getting sound clips up but i have an AT1 in the Bridge Coil Tapped and a Air Classic in the Neck Coil Tapped and the standard three way toggle... this is one fine machine now... (not like it wasn't before) but it does everything i need it to do...

sound clips coming soon
