Well it does seem genuine as far as pics etc go, but I don't think any have been shipped yet - and the seller is certainly making it seem like he has the item IN STOCK. Which he can't do. Unless some have snuck out the door already unbeknownst to us all
Stuff doesn't tend to arrive in the UK before anywhere else...

Absolutely agreed. I'm just saying the pics that are supplied look to be in someones house. Not taken from NAMM etc.

I've emailed him to find out what the situation is. He's a regular seller here in the UK, I've seen a lot of his stuff on ebay, and he seems to be cool. I'll let you know what he says.
Hmm... well all I know is that he isn't buying his from the appropriate channels. None have gone out the door to UK/Europe yet. Not exactly a virtuous seller that I would want to buy from. He sure sells a lot of Music Man and doesn't exhibit serial numbers...

He's totally legit, I have a mate who bought a bass from him before and had no problems. I did find it laughable that he seems to sell really nice basses and yet apparently takes pictures of them using a poor quality camera phone.
True enough he can't possibly be getting his basses through legitimate import channels, and he must get them from a US source for the prices he manages to sell them for in this country (otherwise he would be selling at a loss). But I suppose it's one way for people to buy American-made high-end basses in this country that they wouldn't otherwise be able to afford with the high import markup. I know the employees at EB and BP himself obviously don't condone this activity, but I suppose it's buyer beware without the official warranty, so you take your chances.
As for serial numbers, there are enough scams on ebay using fake numbers that I actually prefer it when ebay sellers don't post them outright. Just sayin'.

Considering how few there are, it might not be tough to figure out which US seller has a little side deal with someone in the UK.....
My point exactly. And, he labels the instrument as "New", which insinuates a warranty, which, at this point, it does not come with. I wouldn't want to buy from someone who's a liar.
This guy is a regular 'face' on ebay, he (or she) obviously does well by the feedback rating. Believe me, there are plenty of ebay sellers going to the US funding their holiday trips by buying instruments whilst over there and taking the chance of 'sneaking' it through customs this end. They avoid the VAT and import duty and then sell it on the bay. Some people even make a living out of it. As for warranty, OK it hasnt got one, but EBMM's quality is so good its worth taking the chance by buying one of these. If I was in the market I'd have no hesitation ....The problem this Ebayer has is that he'll proabably get stomped on by selling higher profile instruments like a 20th by exposure on forums like this. If I were he(or she) I'd stick to regular instruments and keep my head down. Beth, look at it this way, if you were gassing for a 20th in a foreign market where availability is scarse and you could save a few quid would'nt you be tempted, I'd overlook the liar aspect in a whisker!

He's replied to my email saying the bass will be with him by the end of next week.

Nice try, trying to "save" this guy, but he's gotta be making monthly trips to the US if he manages to always have a freshly-shipped-from-the-US supply. I don't see that as being cost-effective. He's obviously getting them shipped to him in the UK, probably at a devalued sale price (which, I might add, is ILLEGAL). His partner, the said US dealer, has been warned about exporting numerous times over the past 3 years, is extremely unpleasant to deal with, brazenly breaches contract with us all the time, and even threatened to sue us once. So not only are you supporting one liar, but two...
I don't buy fakes, I don't buy bootlegs. I don't buy stolen goods and I don't support people who cheat the system, so my answer is no. I wouldn't support him just to save a few quid.
I think "cheat the system" is the key here. Let's all remember that the "cool" Ebay UK guy doesn't have to apply to get a business license, doesn't have to pay overhead, doesn't have a payroll, doesn't have to pay workman's comp, etc. Oh, that's right. I forgot. He's SPECIAL.. Let's all bow to the SPECIAL guy who cheats the system so we all can have a few extra quid for some crisps and a pint. That's fair.
