Oil change, filter, spark plugs, new chain and sprocket, tires, cam belt.... errr. wrong forum!!

No really!

I have taken my StingRay for a check-up / set-up, after almost 10 years of happy ownership, the repair man checked frets for wear and remarkably they are still perfect and don't even need redressing or filing, they are all well seated in the slots, which shows what great quality these instruments really are, temperatures here can be change but not as extreeme as those living in freezing temperatures or equatorial, so the bass has faired pretty well in these 10 years despite having been on many ships with me.

The neck is super sound and perfectly straight, (as in not warped or anything) it has the correct bow to give a low action with hardly any fret buzz, the body is still immaculate with no scratches or nicks, no paint sinking in the wood, discoloration, nothing at all, looks as goos as the day I've bought it.

There is no rust on the bridge or tuning pegs the only things that I might need to change on the next service or sooner are the eq pots which are slowly starting to lose the center detent mark, I suppose that happens with wear and tear. Other than that I am pleased that it was a safe investment and that will continue to serve me well for years to come.
It is a very good companion to my Bongo 5hhp and I have to admit at times I don't know which one to play as they are both equally pleasing to play. God knows what will happens when I finally get that dream-come-true 25th Anni 5h/s/s .... that is going to be interesting. :)

cheers.

Perhaps you may need to "wiggle" those fingers a little more!!!:)

Either that, or get another brand that will "show the wear"! lol, lol, lol

Believe me I play it's heart out, it's just that I never play really aggresively enugh to cause extended wear, I have what I can call a "soft touch", finger pressure wise, I don't really dig into the frets and dislodge them.
I also think it has a lot to do with the fact that my fingertips and hands don't sweath at all that the only place that show some wear from time to time is the unfinished back of the neck, which after periodical use of stell wool "0000" and gun stock oil/wax gets back to normal.

My worry now is where will I get the worn replacement eq pots and knobs now that the bass is well out of warranty?

Congrats on a great bass, but what exactly do you mean?

I'll explain: sometimes with clear stained finishes such as translucent red as in the case of my bass, which not only show the colour of the instrument but also the wood grain, (see pic below) it can happen that over time the paint "sinks" which means it gets absorbed by the wood underneath and tends to get discoloured, you can see that effect on really old and vintage stained instruments, like cherry red Gib### that turns to brown etc. That is what I meant. I have seen pics of some early purple EVH MusicMan did that too if I recall. It's just one of the reactions that wood has with stained colours rather than solid colours guitars which have layers of paint and then lacquer.

I hope me posting that EVH doesn't cause any offence to anyone it was just for example purpose.

Before going for new pots, make sure the hex screw on each of the knobs are tight.

check! yep did that already, also the fixing nuts that hold the pots onto the scratchplate are tight and despite that the knob posts are moving side to side, definately a case of wear over time. I think
