I own a 25th Anniversary guitar and out of curiosity I opened the electronics cavity cover and noticed that there is a very short loose cable on the 5-way pickup selector switch coming from one pin. Probably used as bridge between two pins? Since every of the possible 10 pickup selector positions has sound and sounds fine, I'm curious now if this cable is intentionally not soldered or somehow came loose.
Could someone of the owners of a 25th or a Reflex please post a picture of the selector switch? That would be very helpful to decide if I should solder this cable back somewhere :)

Thanks :)

Thanks for your replies!

Ernie John, that would be very great if you could post a picture.
But I can also post a pic of my switch, but I'm currently on a trip and don't have that guitar with me. I will be home on Saturday and will take that picture when I'm back :)

I asked my son to send me a picture. It's not from the best quality, but you can see a short purple cable which is soldered nowhere. According to its length it reaches to the after next soldering lug or to the opposite row of lugs.

I have the same with my Y2D, and it is a cable to (IMHO) avoid ground noise, since it goes in touch with the metal back plate.

If your guitar works fine, then I guess its the same as mine :)

The picture:

But there is another cable, a blank one, which touches the metal plate.

Has this guitar been rewired at some point???

So, the purple wire sticking up should be soldered to the 5-way switch. It's hard to tell 100% from the pic, but it should be connected a few lugs over.

The bare wire sticking up is normal- it's supposed to come in contact with the metal plate covering the cavity, grounding it and helping with shielding.

Are you handy with a soldering iron? You can get a copy of wiring schematic and solder the wire back in place. Else you'll probably want to have somebody look at it.

Of course, your best bet (as always) is to contact the customer service folks if you have any q's.

ErnieJohn, thank you very very much for this picture! It is perfect, it shows exactly where the wire belongs to :)

Beej, the guitar has not been rewired. I am the original owner and have not touched anything so far. I only considered replacing the capacitor for a lower value, because the tone pot makes her sound pretty dark too quick. I only opened the cavity to look which capacitor is used, when I noticed this purple cable. I am used to using a soldering Iron, so it is no problem at all.

Mikeller, thanks for offering to take a picture, but now it is not needed anymore :)
