Just in and in a word "Smokin" ! A quick post and pics.
Passive tone is great, really strong, great boost with the bridge pup solo, the singles while the same as a Bongo, are unique and sound incredible.
Active tone is also outstanding and unique, so while sharing neck width and a 4 band pre amp both basses are unique tonally. Definitely another MM milestone, home run derby kings of the bass biz, I say. I find the controls intuitive and require no time to get use to. One minor niggle is mine came in at 10.5 lbs, I was really looking forward to under ten as they were shooting for 9ish.

I've never weighed a bass in my life and if it's light then sweet it's light and if it's heavy then oh cool it's heavy. Most of the time I can't tell the difference in weight between my basses, let alone a matter of 1.5lbs.

But congratulations on an absolute EPIC WIN bass there!

Now I can see why you were selling those other basses. 10.5 pounds isn't TOO bad considering all the options on that baby. I played it at GC here in Manhattan on Tuesday. Unbelievable. And yes, the learning curve on the controls is not that steep at all, and it sounded *amazing* in passive mode. The price was more than I expected, but it played wonderfully.

How it went down (tm):

I walked into the little bass room and noticed the 25th hanging on the 3rd tier, out of my reach. I asked one of the sales associates if he could take down a bass for me. When he propped up his ladder next to the Rays and Sterlings, he asked me which one I wanted to try. I told him the new 25th anniversary model; he had no idea what I was talking about, innocently reaching for a honeyburst stingray. After an awkward silence and a lot of pointing, he finally got it down, saying, "I didn't know this was a Music Man!"

Thanks, as far as the weight comment I made, I was speaking with another
MM player about the bass. weight came up and I just mentioned it was kind of chunky since they were promoted as being a lighter bass. That led to my actually weighing it, so since I was doing a little review, I mentioned the weight, you're correct that 1.5 lbs isn't a big deal, although I've had surgery on my neck and have a titanium bracket between 2 disc. so I'm a little mindful about weight. But I didn't open the box and run to a scale, I ran to my amp and fired it up, seriously.

I'm not too bothered about weight most of the time, although i do feel the weight of my w*****k after a good while on the strap.

I do. You'd be surprised how much a difference a pound and a half from 9 to 10.5 makes! I swapped my SR5 fretless and fretted necks precisely for that reason (fretted to the lighter body, because I play that one way more often). And that was just a one pound difference (10 to 9 lbs).

That's one great looking bass! Congratulations.

On the weight issue, I was looking at the Ebony Edition Stingrays on Station Music's site (German dealer) - they have three and quote the weights as well as serials - I was quite surprised that they ranged from 9.5 to 10.5 lbs, on identical spec instruments - I guess it's down to which piece of body wood is used in the build.

25th Anniv Bass

That is one of the coolest basses I've ever seen, and it just looks RIGHT with Rosewood fingerboard. I'm 54 yr old bassman dude and I can't take it with me, I am about to purchase one just as shown with HSS setup. I wont be able to indulge often like this, but for uniquness and quality, the price is very fair.

You can play in your basement for that matter, and still appreciate the look of this bass, this will be my 1st MusicMan. This will be my 1st 5 string.

When you get something nice, it makes you want to play it all the more. Some of your comments have been helpful, take it easy! There's no other instrument I'd rather play, then bass.
