3> Jeffrey Hunter - you've never heard of him. A friend from my hometown. Check out "Gone Away", here: Hungerfield
This band quit playing 13 years ago, they put up this myspace page recently, for us old fans & friends from the day. Jeffrey was 18 when this demo recording of Gone Away was made, probably 16 years ago. The intro is cool, but the solo toward the end is even better ... such maturity in his playing for 18 ... technical mastery & pure soul .... ladies & gents, I give you, Jeffrey Hunter!

Is that three "best" guitarists or three "favorite" guitarists??

The "favorite" ones may be a tad easier to decide on. If so, Neal Schon, Van Halen, Johnny Winter, just to mention a few.

I'll go with "favorite" guitarists for argument's sake.

1. Rob Fetters from the Raisins, the Bears (w/Adrian Belew) and of course my faves, the Psychodots. When I finally saw Fetters and Belew live, together, and having been a Belew fan for years and years, I thought, "Whoa. That Fetters guy has something special going." He is the master of the whacko-cool guitar lead in a rather accessible pop-song format.

2. Bill Frisell: not always am I in the mood for Frisell, but when I want to hear someone play guitar like no one else plays guitar, I break some Frisell out. Especially fun is 1990's "Is That You?"

3. Steve Lukather: can play anything and make it fit with the particular genre, while you still say, "Ah, that's Luke." I can't stress enough how GREAT his newest solo record ("Ever Changing Times") really is. For fun, I sometimes go through my old records and find little-known Luke work - Hall & Oates "Along the Red Ledge", for instance. A guy who can stand next to Santana or Jeff Beck and never take a step back.

I agree -- favorites. I don't know how you could define "best."

1) Bill Nelson

2) Joe Pass

3) Narciso Yepes

Not necessarily in that order. With regrets to Django Reinhardt, Andrés Segovia and David Gilmour.

Hmmm, this might depend on the genre:

Paco De Lucia
Al Di Meola
John McCaughlin

or

Jeff Beck
Jimmy Page
SRV

Them's my choices.

1) Bill Nelson
2) Morello
3) Kenny Pirkle, guitarist in my band!

Saw Bill Nelson a few weeks back and he was incredible, a 12 hour 'Nelsonica', and have yet to see Rage. Kenny is so funky it is unreal.

Myself (well if I don't think I'm the best who else is?)

Honorable mention goes to Angus Young since I don't think anyone else will mention him..but he kicks it.

Also keep in mind I don't really believe any particular guitar player is the "best" so I simply listed my favs..personally for me I'd rather be a bass player in the greatest band..then the worlds greatest bass player..and luckily it seems to have worked out.
