I'm from Sydney Australia and I'm getting a 30th Ann SR4 shipped to me from Canada.

The bass is in pretty good nick but the case is pretty banged up - have a look:

48blast/30th Anniversary EBMM - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

I have the option of getting a EBMM hardshell case instead of the original 30th case. What should I do? What would you guys do?

The 30th is going to be my main bass for gigging, rehearsing and recording so its not as if I need a perfect example to frame and look at.

Cheers,

Lucas

Lucas, I would say buy the 30th case, and also try to score a hardshell on ebay for cheap or something, unless you don't really care about getting another 30th case for the display value, then you could just get the hardshell. Either way your bass will be protected.

If you are gigging it, first let me say "Good Man!" Second, I'd get a hardshell for it just because of the abuse I know happens at some shows. But that is just me.

That case is pretty hammered, for sure. I think I would go with the hardshell one if it is nice.

That same bass was on eBay last month with a NYC seller. I recognize the damage at the neck pocket.

Yeh a mate from canada bought it and is shipping it out (for some reason its less than half as expensive from Canada - AU than US - AU).

Problem is I know it will be a massive task to get a nice 30th case in Oz which is why I'm tempted to get the 30th case despite the scuffs.

Shipping in a case will cost you US$200 more than unbolting the neck and sending it in a smaller box.

To me, a case is something to haul basses to gigs in, and a beat up 30th case is not going to add any collectors value if you ever decide to sell the bass itself. That $200 would be better spent on a very nice Hiscox case (the best moulded cases you can buy) from Allans or Pro Audio.

Actually, my 30th case is heavily damaged too. Judging by the construction of these cases, they are nowhere near the standard of the bass.

I ended up getting the 30th case - arrived yesterday!! woot! The 30th is great but the action is SO low that frets 1-7 buzz when I play. This could be a truss rod fix I think so I gave it a 1/4 turn last night and left it so I'll see how that goes.
