The coach of a recent PGA tour winner claims that the 30th is the best Stingray ever made. I've owned a pre-EB Stingray, EB Stingrays, and a 30th, and I think the coach, he of a prediliction for Hawaiian shirts and 4 string basses, is correct in his assertion.

The general consensus here is that the 30th is the best 4-string 'Ray ever made.

Of course, that could be trumped if you prefer either of the dual-pickup configurations.

Oh heck yeah the 30th absolutely smokes a standard model 3eq StingRay.

I'll even go as far to say I like the sound of the 30th even over the dual-pickup models. A mahogany bodied dual-pickup StingRay would be the s**t!!

30th from a newbie but oldies point of view

Since I opted for a Sterling a little while back, this may not weigh in as well as all the experienced SR4 players out there.
I have tried/played a few SR 4's and thought they were wonderful. My decision to go for the Sterling was just based on a personal preference (like most)
As mentioned in a previous thread, I had the pleasure of playing a 30th SR4 last night, buy it if you have the means, it's a classic. I probaly would have as well, heck I may still.

I wouldn't use the term "smokes" but my 30th sounds noticably better than my 3 band 2007 LE SR4 and a bit better than my new SR5 (ceramic).

I notice more of a difference on gigs than while practicing by myself.

:D:D:D:D:D LOL, Ken.
I'm keeping on topic of the 30th. And I kinda like how the 30th mahog works with the 3eq. And I know the EB vault has a dual pickup 30th, which would be killer if that combo was ever put into production.

But you know me too well , yeah a mahog 2eq would be absolulute hog heaven for me! I want that 08LE 2eq mahog that Dargin had built.

Does anyone remember where the other dual pickup 30th ended up? There were two, if I remember correctly.

You are too good to me, Scotty.....but that's not MY credit card.

You probably know who it belongs to and how well it works.

Anybody out there care to comment on the plus/minus* of the 30th vs today*s standard new SR4.I will be buying one or the other.Plz help me decide.:)

They're different... IMO, not in a way that you can tell one is better than the other. Neither the 30th (mahogany body), nor the NAMM (graphite neck), nor the 20th (ash/maple top) are better than my Dargie (a 2007 standard SR4 3EQ except for the finish), but they all sound and feel different.

If you are into the classic StingRay sound, then IMO you will get more of what you are looking for with a standard SR4 than any of the anniversary models.

PS: And try the HH and HS models if you can... if I could have only one SR4, I'd probably prefer one of these over any others.
