30th Ann StingRay...............WOW.

So I didnt buy one, but yesterday, me and the band went to the two GCs in the ATL area to get my lead singer/guitarist an Avalon U5.

Each of the two GCs had a 30th on the wall.

One was pretty heavy, even heavier than my 11 pound SR5, but the other seemed lighter than my SR5.

In a nutshell, they were downright destructive. GREAT looking finish/pg/headstock logo, etc. Appearence was just stellar. The sound was like a Ray, but the mahogany was PUNCHY. Really added a neat dimension the the StingRay sound. Pitty Im broke, or id be showing pics of mine right now. I was tempted to dip into money that needs to be left alone, they were just that good.

Yet another +1 to the EB team. Impressed and pleasantly surprised yet again.

Haha. No worries. Heading up there with Mike next Saturday and i'll be sure to post pics of their selection and give my review on the 30th anniv.

If I recall correctly, Dargin said they'll take order for these until December. After that, no more will be produced. Maybe that's just for the limited editions. Maybe it's both. Someone should chime in soon.

No, they will stop taking orders much before that. They don't want to ship the LE's or 30th after December, so when you figure in the 5 month wait right now, their may only be another month to order.

Stingray LE

I ran into Bassmonkee last saturday at the atl. GC, and he brought my attention to it, beautiful bass, but when I picked it up, I knew it wasn't for me. I can't afford a chiropractor right now.

They Are Only 1 To 2 Pounds Heavier Than A Normal Sr4. They Should Be Around The Weight Of An Sr5.

Even carrying a soprano bugle for a parade sucks. And it probably doesn't even weigh 10 lbs..

Year before last in Denver, I carried the Contra Bugle from the end of the parade back to the van. It was a little warm outside and I wanted to give the guy that carried it in the parade a break. Before we got back to the van, I sure was sorry that I had offered to do that. I don't know how you guys do (or did) it.

Scott, dont get me wrong. One of the 30th Rays was a bit heavier than my SR5, but the other was lighter.

I never cared about the weight of my basses, well, until I got a pinched nerve in my back. Its right behind my shoulder blade on the strap side. Now weight is a bigger factor for me, sadly.

My DG Bongo is definitely heavier than my BC Bongo. I"m selling the DG and keeping the BC because I like the looks of the BC better.

But of course, the GP BongoH is the lightest and it's the one I'll play most often.

11 lbs is not all that heavy IMO especially for a mahogany bodied bass.

I know thats the case but, I have minor back problems and I know what would happen if I used that bass on 3 one hour sets a night.
right now, the bongo is ideal for me and possibly a bongo H, but that ray is a gorgious piece of work. I used to have a Wal in that finish. and it weighed 13lbs.
