Hey all. Figured I'd say hey and introduce myself since you're about to see me on the "for sale" board. You see, never having owned a Music Man bass, I got a nice deal on two Stingray 5s, with the plan of keeping the one I like better (one has a maple board, the other rosewood). Before I even received those basses, though, I came across a pretty solid deal for a 30th anniversary Stingray. Since everyone I know who is into MM basses has been telling me the 30th anniversary Stingray is such a great bass, I couldn't pass it up. So now I'm going to have two 5-strings to sell!

I think this'll make a nice addition to my growing arsenal (mostly Rickenbackers, with a fretted & fretless jazz thrown in), and I'm looking forward to joining the ranks of Stingray players.

And if you are looking for a Stingray 5H, let me know! One's black/maple with black pg, and the other I think is Autumn Redburst/rosewood with a white pg. Still not sure about the finish names, though I'm doing my research here. I'm basically just looking to recoup what I paid for them.

Welcome to the forum. Good luck with your 30th. I haven't ever played one, but I've heard that they are great.

Howdy Jake,

Yeah, it's kinda fun just "collecting" those basses too. Don't sell em' too quick - you may wish you had them one day!:)

Welcome, Jake! Glad you found that good deal on that bass...I hear those 30ths are pretty decent basses and I'm going to go out on a limb and say that you got a particularly nice one.

I'm betting the setup rocks, too.

Congratulations!

If it is the auction I am thinking of, he got a heck of a deal on those SR5's. I would have pounced on the BIN just to flip them.

BTW, that 30th you are getting is a peach. I got to check it out awhile back.

Thanks, Jack! It's always good to buy from someone who knows their stuff. (As far as I can tell, anyway!) I thought it was a good price, too, and I appreciate that.

Thanks! Jack's right, they're standard single-H SR5s, not 20ths. I'll have good pics soon.

It probably is the auction you're thinking of -- I paid the BIN price even though the BIN was gone (since he ended the auction, it only LOOKS like I paid $1050 for both of them). I didn't think there was too much room in the price to flip them; with shipping included I paid $925 each. That's pretty good, I guess, but I didn't think it was incredible. But I'm still learning about pricing, so we'll see.

He's a BIN Monster, that Jake is.

You been checking out my eBay history? Ha. I already have a reputation for a quick trigger finger on the RIC boards. I've found that the easiest way to find the perfect bass is to buy a bunch of them (at good prices) and try them out for a couple weeks. I'm constantly doing "thunderdomes" (two basses enter, one bass leaves) to test my existing favorites against new ones. Sometimes the new ones win.

Welcome, the 30th has awesome sound and beauty. There's only so many of us who are lucky enough to get our paws on one. You will enjoy it.

Interesting. I found myself riding that train as well lately.
Only that the 2:1 ratio doesn't work out as expected... of those who come, too many are staying

I'm going to go out on a limb here....

Recently Jack suggested there is a change happing in his collection. And somehow he knows that the 30th you got is a particularly nice one with a great setup. And he knows about your eBaying. And there's a 30th in his sig.

Hmmm.

There WAS!

...not that I can prove it, but there was! I seen it, I swear!

Hey, maybe I should put a 30th in MY sig. And here I was figuring that there's no way the same guy could be bovinehost on more than one site.

I just looked, and besides one pedal that I sniped for cheap, something like the last 10-15 auction wins I've had were all BINs. I must be a quickdraw specialist.

So Jack sold his 30th? Man, I just can't imagine selling mine. What could possibly be on the way to replace it? Any hints?

BTW, Jakeox, nice score. The 30th rules.

Hint #1 What EBMM bass "denomination" just left the collection?

First, yeah, you have to think numbers.

And then of my given title.

More than this, I cannot say - until maybe Tuesday.

Hmmm, I guess I was wrong. I was thinking Redwood BFR.

So's not to spoil the surprise, don't confirm or deny this, but ... "think numbers", as in, the new number of Bongos will be the same as the number of strings on the new Bongo? :)
