two different beasts. One sounds like a typical StingRay, the other sounds like a Stingray that has been j uicing for a while. The 30th is the one with the roid rage, by the way ;)

I would go for the 30th. Besides the fact that it kicks even harder than a regular Ray, it also looks better IMHO. Dont get caught up about the painted neck being "too slow", thats horsetalk. The neck is plenty quick and if you need it even faster for sliding and such, y ou can wax it like I do. (I wax in the nude  )

My vote: 30th and rock on.

30th. The gold one will play and feel and sound just like a regular ray, which you can get easily in the future. The 30th is a whole differen beast.

I hadn't heard anything about the neck being "too slow" but whoever said that needs to pee in a cup. Just kidding, we of course have different individual perceptions, feels, needs, wants, etc. For me, if it is "too anything" it is just "too purdy".;)

I have a 2006 HH Ray LE. I love the black/gold hardware. Obviously not for everyone, but then, what is? It's a beautiful bass.

I'm a bit concerned about the gold hardware tarnish thing that Aussie Mark mentioned though ...

The 30th is also an excellent choice. I don't think you could go wrong. From reading other posts, the 30th seems to have something different to offer in sound ... if you like the 30th punch better, get it.

I've got both and would go for the 30th if I had to choose between the two. It doesn't seem like it should be that different, but it really kicks out.

i personally think that the gold hardware isnt that ugly, but from what aussie mark said the pimpness of the bling comes at a cost...

i just needed to be reassured, was basically leaning towards the 30th anyway just wanted some other opinions

now i gotta make some calls and get one reserved :D

Am I the only one who hates gold hardware new, but likes it with the patina of age? Seriously, new gold seems gaudy to me, but if you look at (sorry, guitar reference), say, a sixties Gibson SG with the tarnished gold hardware it looks totally mojo'd.

I have a 30th, and also give it the vote. The body wood is what really kicks the low-mids on them.

But the gold thing I think looks killer on that black bass. I've owned many basses with gold hardware and it isn't bad...maybe some people have acid for sweat? Mine only get a slight aged look, about same aged my chrome gets. I currently have a 24yr old bass with gold and it doesn't look anymore used than my other one from the same timeframe with chrome.

The 30th is awesome, pick that. But if the black one had the juice on the 30th, i would die for it :D I just love the gold hardware!

Question re: gold hardware guys ... when I clean/polish my Ray (Dunlop 65 cleaner/polish) ... can I use it on the gold hardware as well? Will that prevent or slow the tarnish process? Any other suggestions?
