John C. that statement about trademarks (trademark registration) may not be reliable, with respect to the USPTO.

From the USPTO (US PATENT AND TRADEMARK OFFICE)
Questions and Answers - USPTO- USPTO

open link above, clik on the "salmon colored "trademark" box near the top, find

"How long does a trademark registration last?" in the righthand column

What I get by reading the info is Trademark registrations have to be renewed.

Good research; that's what I get by reading that as well - I wasn't aware of the real limitations as my legal exposure was limited to the legal/regulatory classes back in business school (mid-80s at that).

Wouldn't it be a trademark vs a copyright?

Correct, and yes it is a Federally registered Trademark in the US and registered in other countries.
They don't have to be renewed, they are perpetual for as long as you use and do not abandon the mark.

Jim, no comment pointed at you from me. All is cool. It's simply good advice that more people including myself should remember from time to time.

gotcha.. :) thanks bro.

And also thank you wonderdog.... for clarifying that. I'm done, my head hurts from reading the gov-speak.

Trademark renewing is not like rent payment

the current owners of the TM, EBMM.
i mean, sure, they have to renew it, but i think they have a whole dept for stuff like that. it's like us forgetting to pay the rent!

Companies do not necessarily renew every trademark or patent for that matter. They only do so if they can get back the money they are investing into it.
