Whatever you do, don't come to South Carolina. If your in a band, you better know some of Free Bird. It's hard to explain, I know everyone's either been on stage and heard some yell it, or been in the crowd and heard it, but it's in our blood to yell it out. Why? Cause we're drunk, and everybody else does it too. Embrace the song, and wip it out for the drunk fool that paid to see you!

There ya go. You play music when you get paid by those willing to listen.

I am just the bass player. I play what the band does and try to do it to the best of my ability.

Free beer will get you Free bird any time. :)

Play it pretty for Atlanta.

I was at a coffee house last year - there were two non-angry young men with acoustic guitars playing melodic folk flavored singer songwriter original songs and some one yelled out "Freebird!".
I laughed.

Never fails. During our gig this past weekend, we just finished up another less-painful skynrd song and someone had to call out "Freebird!!" The funny thing is you could hear his old lady tell him "shut up, I hate that song"... I laughed

My band is beginning to look more toward the private outdoor party gig. We've done a few and it's been a positive experience.

We've adopted a whole new approach when we're out there - If they're paying, we're playing... :D

I tried to forget this thread , but no I had to read it again.....
I grew up in a redneck oilfield town that loved C&W and southern rock. I heard sooo much southern rock in high school I am possible burned out for life. That said I used to play "Sweet Home Alabama" on the guitar back then. I will still play "Mustang Sally" if I had to, but no southern rock. You could not escape the blaring of car stereo's playing 38 Special, Molly Hatchet, and Lynyrd Skynyrd at my high school. That was probably one of the biggest reliefs when I moved to SLO in the 80's. Other styles of music.
OK I'll get off my soapbox know.
