Even though us ebmm faithful all have different guitar styles and tastes, maybe this thread can expose us to fresh ideas, old favorites, and new inspiration.

Add some commentary if you want.

Here's mine...

1. BELA FLECK "LIVE AT THE QUICK" (You won't be able to stop watching)
2. JOE SATRIANI "LIVE IN S.F." (2 disks full of melody, licks, and grooves)
3. LAURENCE JUBER "THE GUITARIST" (jawdropping fingerstyle, wow  )
4. LAURENCE JUBER "GUITAR NOIR" (LJ+bass, and percussion, hard to find)
5. PIERRE BENSUSAN "IN CONCERT" (another fingerstyle master w/capo)

Anyone else out there with their favorites?

Best 5 concert DVD's? Mine would have to be.......

1/ Dream Theater - Scenes from a memory
2/ Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells 2 (Edinburgh castle)
3/ Pink Floyd - Pompeii
4/ Mudvayne - The end of all things to come
5/ Nine Inch Nails - And all that could have been

Bit of a mix there but they are probably the 5 best that I own :)

Hmmm....

I go:

Rush in Rio
Vai at the Astoria
DT Live Scenes
Joe in SF
incubus - the morning view sessions (the play the entire album live in a sound studio...pretty cool for contemporary rock guy...alot of effects usage.)

No doubt that Juber is the man.....also there is a Karizma video floating around. Landau is redonkulous....but I'm sure you know that already. Too bad Tribal Tech never did a concert vid. I think there's a Elektrik Band video out there somewhere too....I'd peep that Beneath the Mask is a favorite as well.

Keep in mind, none of mine are in order.

Late!

I got the dt video, JP's playing is on a level few reach on that one. Amazing.

ELEKTRIC BAND  Video or DVD? Which guitarist?? I want it!

Just saw them on Sept 18th playing the new cd "TO THE STARS".
Tremendous playing by all (Pettitucci wasn't there), but the tunes aren't as memorable as some of their earlier efforts imo. Weckl is a M  NSTER.

Probably a boot that someone put on DVD. There were a few rumblings that I never investigated....I need to grab that Karizma DVD tho. Vinnie C and Landau rock it.

I need to get Steve Morse's Sect's Dregs and Rock N' Roll DVD.

Here's a thought.....on the EB Merch page add the Artists' DVDs. Some are a bitch to get elsewhere....just my $.02.

I have an old one from 86 I just got, haven't watched it yet. Eye Of the Beholder is da bomb.

Edit: I might add, Gambale's Concert with Class is kinda cool, the playing is pretty sick. Frankie smiles a little too much tho... :)

The recently re-released on DVD Van Halens' "Live without a Net" is surely one of the best concerts ever to be captured on an official release. I doubt there's much fixing compared to the "costume change-a-thon" of Right Here, Right Now (which I also love, hey, Its Van Halen, baby!) and EVH's solos on One Way to Rock, Summer Nights, 5150 and his own solo are possibly the best playing I've heard from the man. 5150 from that video is the very reason why I play guitar.

Plus, with the release of it on DVD you can choose to skip the drum & bass solos or accurately reproduce the Van Halen concert experience in full by leaving the room to buy a beer or t-shirt, getting back to your seat only when Al starts doing that drums with delay thing on his Simmons pad....

And the other 4 in no particular order (and with no ranting)

Steve Lukather & Los Lobotomys "In Concert" (recorded June 29th 2004, Stuttgart, Germany)
Marillion "Brave Live 2002"
Peter Gabriel "Up"
Metallica "Live Sh*t: Binge & Purge" (thanks to the excellent Justice Tour Disc)

Hendrix at the Isle of Wight (come on! it's HISTORIC)
honorary mention: Concert for George (for purely sentimental reasons)

I would add (in no real order):

1) Dream Theater - Live in Tokyo (Images & Words)
2) Frank Zappa - Baby Snakes
3) Marillion - Live at Lorelei
4) Marillion - Recital of the Script

#4 has a great performance of the song "Grendel" complete with Fish wearing a medieval helmet and pretending to slash and devour a dude from the audience. Classic. Of course, Zappa's "Baby Snakes" movie features concert footage and some trippy claymation from the ever-stoned Bruce Bickford.

Jongitarz..

Wouldn't the Jardineros de Muerta call their album "Dead in the Garden"? ;)

Sorry to go off topic...

SteveB, if you get chance, go and see Marillion, they're touring the US right now. My USA geography isn't great but check out the dates on their website....

www.marillion.com

For the rest of you boys on the forum, Steve Rothery has great taste and feel, and cool tone to boot. You should check some out....
