5 cd's i cant live without

^
You know when yer old - when you've never heard any of them !!!

LOL
Age has nothing to do with it my friend
James Murphy is a death metal guitarist and that is his solo album, very melodic - Dream Theater-esq
STS, Cynic, AAL are heavier "djent" or technical metal
Ani DiFranco is a chick folk singer with a very interesting technique
Antoine DuFour is in the same vein of Andy McKee and Jon Gomm....insane accoustic player, alternate tunings, 2 hand tapping, etc

Oh come on now, Scale the Summit isn't really djent :p They're just really good instrumental music (that helps with studying). And I wouldn't even say Cynic is either, they're pretty unique.

I dunno what my 5 choices would be. I'll probably come back later and add them.

Some good ones there. *Tough* limiting it to just 5. If I had 5, and only 5 ... at this particular moment:

Steely Dan - Aja
Van Halen - 1984
Beatles - Sgt Pepper's
Rush - Moving Pictures
Mark Knopfler - The Rag Picker's Dream

(Siamese Dream / Pumpkins would have been #6, or maybe Ritual de lo habitual / Jane's Addiction.)

Five albums is far more difficult that it seems at first thought! That being said, here are my choices in no particular order:

Further Seems Forever -- The Moon Is Down
Guthrie Govan -- Erotic Cakes
Coheed And Cambria -- Good Apollo I'm Burning Star IV, Vol. 1: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness
Mae -- The Everglow
Yes -- Symphonic Live

Marillion - Misplaced Childhood
Iron Maiden - Number of the Beast
Dream Theater - Awake
Lynyrd Skynyrd - s/t
Bon Jovi - These Days

Actually i have too MANY :)

Ozzy Osbourne - Diary of a Madman
Rush - Hemispheres
Dream Theater - Train of Thought
Steely Dan - A Decade of Steely Dan
Metallica - Ride the Lightning

First Post - whoot:cool:

At the moment it's...

Braids - Native Speaker
The Joy Formidable - The Big Roar
Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream
My Morning Jacket - Z
Manic Street Preachers - Journal For Plague Lovers

This list is subject to change on a daily basis but here goes....

1. Genesis - The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway
2. King Crimson - Red
3. The Beatles - Hey Jude
4. O Rappa - O Silêncio Q Precede O Esporro
5. Queens of the Stone Age - Queens of the Stone Age

Ozzy Osbourne - Diary of a Madman

Dream Theater - Train of Thought
Steely Dan - A Decade of Steely Dan

Nice to see Hemispheres on someone's list. That was a really important album for me my senior year in HS. Was pretty fanatical about rush back in the day. These days Geddy's voice doesn't do it for me. But so glad Neil has bounced back from his tragedies.

On a side note, just read a nice biography on Randy Rhoads, Crazy Train-the highlife and tragic death of RR by Joel Mclver. Many of the quotes and interviews are from long ago published material but it still resonated with me. It was sad to realize he's now been gone longer than he was alive. Miss you Randy.

Also in no particular order -

Brand New - The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me
Say Anything - Say Anything
Sage Francis - Personal Journals
Alkaline Trio - Remains
aaannnnddddddd...
Fall Out Boy - From Under the Cork Tree

Pretty much impossible to pick five, so I'll say that's my five for today.

Can't live without?? That's a tough one, and mine change regularly, but right now.....In no particular order:

The Innocent Age - Dan Fogelberg
The Nightfly - Donald Fagen
The Seventh One - Toto
Tales from the bulge - Michael Landau
Agent Provocateur - Foreigner

Dream Theater- Scenes from a Memory
Dream Theater- A Dramatic Turn of Events
Dream Theater- Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence
Pink Floyd- The Wall
John Petrucci- Suspended Animation

Needless to say the majority of the music I listen to is Dream Theater!

QOTSA - Lullabie to Paralyze
Black Sabbath - Vol 4
Tool - Undertow
Truckfighters - Gravity X
Red Fang - Murder the Mountains

no particular order

1. Tool - Aenima
2. Beck - Guerro
3. REM - Document (close tie with Life's Rich Pageant)
4. U2 - Unforgettable Fire (close tie with War)
5. Joe B. - Live from Royal Albert Hall

way too many albums to limit to just 5....
