If anyone is interested, 5 freebies await to first 5 who email me an address (though I may not even generate that amount of excitement).

I wrote and arranged all 8 songs. There's sax, flute, vibes, bass, and drums on it along with guitar. Though I only kick in the distortion 3X on this project. Most off it is clean.

There's a sax/guitar duet, a bass/guitar duet, a guitar/flute/vibes trio, a solo guitar fingerpicking song, and four tunes with drums.

We did it all ourselves. And I'd certainly like to share it with you folks since there's a diversity of influences among all of us here.

Thanks,

KEITH

Thanks guys!

I only have about 40 copies of it right now as the labeling is a bit off the mark. Band name and our names are a strain to read in my opinion. Plus a name is spelled wrong. Bass players wife (an artist) did the labeling and wasn't interested in doing it again.

But I think it was more a reaction of his (bass player) wanting songwriting credit and me saying if you had written or arranged any of the tunes I'd be happy to share it.

I think he felt that playing his parts (a lot of which I also wrote) automatically entitled him to ownership. Or at least he wanted it to be that way.

Not sure how some of you guys deal with an issue of this importance?

You know, I read an interview with Queen a while back and one of the things that Freddie Mercury said that I thought was pretty profound was that the greatest thing his band ever did was stop giving song writing credits to individuals and just saying that all the songs were done by Queen. They seemed like a pretty close group, but I am sure that songwriting credits can be a pretty touchy topic for a lot of bands, espeicially when they are making money based on song credits.

I am not sure that you want to do this, if you and one other person are writing all the songs (a la Paul and John) but if you just want to smooth over things in your band and are happy just knowing that you wrote everything and that the rest of the band would be totally lost without you, then I would reccomend giving the band credit.

It is really up to you, but with musicians there is a great chance of having pride and insecurity issues to dealwith.

That is just my two cents, which seems to be worth less and less each day.

Man, I loved Queen growing up. Brian's guitar was always so tasteful and never a wasted note.

With us, it did come down to possible licensing of song(s), though I did consider that something of a remote possibility. It was just that I put in about 20 hours for every 1 hour they put in and I literally had the song written and arranged before bringing it in, and recorded it at home so they could learn it away from rehearsal if they wanted.

Hard to tell if I'm being a prick, or their request was just totally unrealistic. But I was pretty insulted and decided to pull the plug.

Yeah, you're a prick!

:)

Just kidding. Actually, if that is the case, you probably did the right thing. I was in a band where there was a trombone player that wrote everything. I wrote like two songs. But I was totally cool with it because he wrote realling interesting stuff. There was no real question as to who owned the band, so we were all ok with it. Sometimes you just have to look at the reality of the situation and say, if this person was not in the band, would the band still survive. In my band, had there been no trombone player, then we would have been miserable, and it sounds similar to what you are dealing with Keith.

I say take your songs, find some people that either inspire you to be better or are willing to jump on your back and take off with you or both. That is the only way it will work I think. But I have always had little to no ego when it comes to this stuff. Song writing is not my strong suit.

Neither is playing music.

Really, me strong suit is sitting in the back and when people finish their solos, even if they are awesome, yelling "You Suck!" as loud as I can. I also drink heavily.

Just kidding.

Hey fellow pickers,

Cd's went out Monday. Should arrive in the next day or so for most (UK who knows).

Many thanks to those who responded and seem willing to listen to the music. I tend to concentrate much more on composition than blistering guitar work. The test being is the song strong enough to warrant another listen immediately after hearing it.

Any feedback can either be posted here or if really really negative, perhaps notify me privately:)

Hey Keith, I am listening to your disc right now and it really rocks. I especially like song number 3, but it is also the one playing right now. :) I like the chorus you have in it, very fun! I love this disc! Very clean playing, very good production, very crisp sound. It reminds me of one of my favorite bands Camel!

Go Andy Latimer!

Anwyay, after listening to it, I did also begin to see what probably happened between you and your bass player. Since he also played flute, and his parts were basically solos, it probably seemed to him like he was doing a lot of writing. I still think that basically the songs seemed to be written on guitar, rather exceptionally I might add, and that you probably did write everything. At least set up the parts that were not jamy or soloish. I am not sure if this makes any sense.

Oh, and righ tnow song number 4 is on, and it is great as well. I really like your playing, your tone and style. Very intricate, but also makining your notes count. Very fun!

One comment I would make, it is not a big deal, because what the crap do I know, but it does seem like there is a lot of echo. I imagine that is part of your sound, but for some reason it really sticks out to me that there is a lot of delay in the songs. One good thing it does is that when you bring in the distortion, it really cuts through the song and stands out which is cool. I just kind of noticed the echo a lot if that makes sense.

Anyway, all in all it is a very great record (disc I guess) and I am a little sad that you guys broke up.

Anyway, have an awesome day and thanks again for this disc. You should charge us!

Hey Peter,

Thanks for all the nice comments. I think there was only one song we ever played that DIDN'T have delay on it. It was kind of a funk groove (FUNKY MONKEY) and I was gonna put it on the next cd which was going to have a more rock and roll/distortion vibe to the whole thing.

I probably rely on delay way too much but my sound just sort of developed along side it when I bought line6 amps that have it built in.

Hey Peter,

RE: Song #3 (OLD FRIENDS)

That chorus is pretty easy to play. Just bar C at 5th fret with index finger and add middle finger and then pinky to B string (6th and 8th fret). Then bar F at the 10th fret and add middle finger to B string 11th fret (then pull off) and ring finger to G string 12th fret (then pull off). Back to C, then down to Bb (doing middle and ring finger thing). Repeat C to Bb then down to Ab at 1st fret and upt to Bb.

If that makes sense (or if you even care).

I wrote that tune in about an hour the night before a guitar playing friend from way back (1978) was coming down to jam with me and the band. It was just before we found the sax player (who of course MAKES that song).

We both took lessons for about a year from Randy Rhoads but hadn't played guitar together since like 1981!

Cool, that is awesome Keith! I really like your songs. I have been listening to you and Norm's cd's a lot lately and I am just impressed with the people on this forum. Your songs are so creative, and I like the use of horns on the songs a lot. I also think that your drummer played very tastefully on the CD! Good stuff!

Oh, and thanks for the transcription of the song. Very fun! I just jammed on it a bit.

Also, that is really cool that you took lessons from Rhodes. Great musician! Sad story though... Anyway, I will keep you updated on my Mandolin work on that song you sent me!

I have Norm's cd as well. I especially love what he did with Moonlight Sonata in both interpretation and tone. Just drop dead gorgeous. ranks up there with some of my favorite guitar playing ever.

I'm willing to bet he could write a pretty amazing piece of classical music himself if he could pull himself away from Steve Morse for a couple of months.;)

One of these days I want to try writing a classical piece. Now that my band has disbanded, maybe I should get on it.

Norm,

Yeah. Let's try that. Hope you don't mind doing most of the heavy lifting on it.

I've thought of a nice opening riff and a pretty heavy chunka chunka rhythmn pattern to follow.

You can use the riff as a springboard to soaring solo stuff. I'll record and send out by end of week.
