I saw a band play last night and the bass player had a butter cream
stingray, but the mad thing was the plastic cover was still
on the pick guard. Now if I am right it was out in 2005 ?
It was clearly a well played bass but the plastic was all curled at
the edges and looked very tatty.
Now I can understand to a point if he wanted to keep it as new
andfresh as he could but when they took a break did he put
it on a stand nice and safe.... Nope he put it leaning up against his amp string side down.
Just looked funny as hell, great wee player allthe same.

Had to play a gig so diddnt get to stay for the end of the show.
Plus there may have been a really good reason for it and that would be no fun

I have known a few guitar players to do this. I asked one and she said she didin't notice the plastic. It was removed by me. I couldn't handle it.

That's funny about the bass player.

I keep the plastic on until my right 3rd finger starts to scrape a hole through the plastic. Then it comes off.

I did buy a guitar last year that still had the plastic on the guard, and it was a 2004 model Deluxe Strat.

Well some mothers do have 'em, as they say and... I have to admit my son has done the same thing with his new guitar, I'll explain his "theory": he is 17 now, he started playing guitar at 14, I never thought he would stick to it, I thought it was just a fad or something he wanted to do just to copy what "dad does" and from the age of 14 he's only had from me cheap guitars to "test the grounds" but to my surprise he stuck to it and has been learning quite a bit, so when last xmas came and I got him a new Silo leftie in "Clapton's blackie" colours he couldn't believe his luck!!

He has been worshipping that guitar ever since. No one can touch it and he is very fond of it, so much so that the closer he keeps it in pristine condition, the more satisfying to him is... :)

I know lots of folks who keep plastic protectors on the stuff foras long as possible. I work with one of these types of people...

Maybe he is just one of those people??

I've seen people leave the plastic on pickguards and when I asked them about it they invariably said "you mean it's not supposed to look like that?" :D

I'll keep mine on for several days, maybe a few weeks, until it starts showing. Then it's off.
