Stupid idea? Just thinking about the possibility. If it's already been beaten to death about, sorry for bringing it up. I was only curious if this was ever pondered upon. I think it would be pretty popular model if one were to be made to the public.

I personally think that would look totally off. The body size is pretty small and compact as is, so a wider neck and bigger headstock would look a bit weird. That's just what I visualize and think.

I would kill for a 7 string that played and sounded like an Axis! I think it would be an incredible guitar!

That would be very cool. Never heard talk of such a thing, but it would be very cool.

yeah I agree with Robuster on the body size. I think it would be too small to host a fatter neck. Unless the body size was increased in proportion. I've never compared the reflex and the Axis body size but maybe the reflex is a little bigger and that would work for a 7 sting. I'd like to see one attempted anyway to see what it looked like.

OK... I did a little Photoshop magic and put a JP7 neck (reduced to 22 frets) onto an Axis. I don't think this looks bad at all! I kinda like it!

Looks fantastic.
A hardtail version (keeping the simple single volume and 3 way selector) might have the "Djent" community very interested.

looks disproportionate to me. i like the concept, but as Roubster mentioned, the body needs to be increased in size to balance the size of the neck.

Perhaps you could just a little bit, but I think, just from looking at the pictures above it would look very cool as its. Either way I would be in line to try one out.

Then how about a 7-string reflex, without the chambering?

Looks great! Let's find a Rockstar out there who can get BP to make one for them! :p
Or, I have a better idea, if we can get Petrucci and EVH to run into each other, really, really fast, then maybe this whole idea could come to light...

people get too hung up on aesthetics. its infuriating, i dont care what it looks like. I would 100% buy a 7 string luke or 7 axis even if it was only made in hot pink with hello kitty graphics on it

edit: sorry, overreactiong for sure^^

Yea, I barely know what to do with 6 hehehe. What do you think of the 8 stringed creations than??? haha

I'm perfectly content with tuning down my Y2D...and it sounds amazing. But I cant lie though, I have thought about owning a 7 string for some of my heavier ideas.

Anyway, a 7 string axis would require more tweaking than just the aesthetic aspect. You have to think about the balance of the instrument itself as well. That's why I think it would have to be re-designed to accommodate the thicker and heavier neck.

I'm sure it would be popular. Personally, I am a ****ty player with 6 strings, so I have no plans of adding a 7-string any time in the foreseeable future!

Axis 7 String

I know it's an old Thread, but a friend of mine stumbled upon it, and asked me if I wanted to build him an Axis Style 7 String Guitar.
It's my third Guitar Build, the first EBMM Style one.
I'm not trying to make it a 100% Copy of the Axis, and I hope I won't get any Problems because of Copyrights and stuff like that.

So here's a first Picture of it
View attachment 19936

The Body is made of Ovangkol with a Walnut Top,
The Neck is a Maple Neck with a Rosewood Fretboard, 24 Frets and 16" Radius.
It will get all Black Hardware, String Through Body Fixed Bridge and Black DiMarzio Air Norton Pickups.

If anyone is interested to see the Build Process and Finished Guitar, I can post more Pictures of it.

Count me in as one of the people who thinks of themselves as rubbish on 6 strings let alone 7, but I sure would love a 7 of any kind--just to have one for the fun of it. An Axis? Well, I suppose one would just have to tweak the dimensions a bit. Maybe, a 7-string Reflex might work.
