I was wondering if anyone saw the 76 Stingray with vintage sunburst finish and radio knobs on ebay a couple weeks ago. I need any information that you guys can give me because I wired a guy in england 1050 pounds into his bank account and I haven't heard from him since the 2nd. I played the fool because this was the bass of my dreams. I was born in Sep. 76 and have been on the look out for one with that finish and what can I say I got stupid. Many Thanks, DR103w

Can't say that I could give you much information, but if you can link us up to the eBay auction, that might be helpful.

I remember that!
It was all over Bassworld in the UK and warnings were flying left, right & centre.
Man, I feel for ya!!
Recognised as a scam VERY quickly (new ebayer seller, private auction, no cash on collection, dodgy english writing in emails etc etc).
Trouble is, there is only so far we can go to spread the (bad) news and to be honest quite a lot of the Bassworld forumites contacted ebay with their concerns and they did NOTHING about it.
I just tried to find the link but ebay have pulled it. The concern was initially raised because the pictures had been used and abused at least 3 times previously.
My advice would be to press ebay to get something sorted. Try the bank to find out which account the money was wired to..... but I don't hold out much hope for you buddy. My heart bleeds.:(
If there is a lesson to be learned... dip in and out of other forums and find any ebay scam notifications noted anywhere else. I for one will now post any dodgy EBMM auctions warnings on here for you all (perhaps a sticky could be set up for this kind of thing?). Just didn't think at the time you guys from over the pond would be interested in UK auctions.

If it's the one I'm thinking of, the pre-amp wasn't the correct vintage. I saved all the info but can't access it at the moment as I'm away for a few days.

That 76 w/radio knobs has been an ongoing re-used scam for over 2 years now.

Tis true, the same images for this bass pop up on ebay UK every few months, and they are always the same photo(s). I'm constantly amazed how often this bass changes ownership, and amazingly each time it is sold by sellers with no feedback! I really hope you can get your money back.

Thanks for the replys, at least I know now

Man the saddest thing about this whole thing is that I sold a 68 Plexi super trem to get that bass. I would have never sold that amp but that was the bass I have always wanted. I don't have allot of money and I am 30 years old, the exact age of that bass down to the month. If you guys know where any nice 76s are please let me know. The only way I think I am going to get over this sick feeling is to try and find one at a good price. Thanks everyone I am going to go cry now:(

One of the more useless things that EBay do is to cancel auctions after they have finished!
Take Tomboy's advice and contact the bank to get details of where the money was wired to, then try contacting the UK police....if it really went to a UK bank a/c it should be traceable, it's not that easy to open an a/c in the UK these days.
I guess the numbers he gave you might not tie up to a UK a/c though....
