On the purchase side of things....can you give a full description and perhaps the serial# There are no 1984 EB 'Rays. There may be a just a few Pre-EBs from 1984. I should be able to ID it's age for you.

What Gav is saying is at that time, EB (Ernie Ball)had just purchased Musicman, so no production happened in 84, only a couple demo basses built by hand.
There could have been enough preEB parts left over that could have been built. The biggest distinguishing feature would be does the body have contours for the arm and belly area? If not, it's a preEB, if it has contours it's an EB bass.

But that serial is weird...is there no 'B0' at the beginning of that serial?

JUST MY Own Opinon, From 1980 til Ernie Ball Took over this era of Music Man Basses we're not good at all.
Ernie Ball Started Making the Best Stingrays ever, Yes Ever, better then the Leo Fender ones from the 70's.
So my advise is if you have a 1985 thru 1990, those four bolts we're amazing. The stuff now is even more incredible. But those mid 80's had that old style feel but just a damn better Bass.
The Problem with the 70's Rays is, you may find 1 out of 500 that is really good and when its good it's good. Now the odds are different, 1 in maybe 2000 maybe a dud.

Somethings have gotten better with Technology and Ernie Ball Is Living Proof of that.

So check out the EB stuff, your money will be well Spent.

Yes, a very nice combination! You'll be smiling.

my bass isn't listed on his page... hence my question
Chris,
I don't know if you realized it yet, but Gav's website database is built from the info 'we' (the bass owners) give him. Not all basses are listed there, but now that you have the info email it to him so he can add it.

I totally agree...my 88 Teal SR4 was the best recent purchase I've made...it is definitely my favorite bass now...the neck feels thinner for some reason too...
