Heaps of Stingrays amongst that set. MXPX is the first that comes to mind.

After a headlining set by MXPX on main stage at Cornerstone in Illinois back in the summer of 2002, the catwalk was all messed up due to crowd moshing and general craziness. Me and a buddy of mine got to help fix the catwalk with the stage crew for Project 86, who was to perform that evening, and got to sit in for their sound check. Awesome! More of a Project 86 memory, but MXPX was involved. LOL!

Can't believe next year is 20 years since the release of such amazing albums like Nevermind and Ten.

Wow!! Starting to feel old.

You and me both, brother. You and me both...

I did not know that the opening riff of Cannonball was played on a Stingray!!! COOL!!!!!!

Yeah, I agree, the 90's was a great decade for music. Once we hit the millennium things went south of heaven. They were still mastering albums properly in the 90's too (an added bonus).

Hmmmm...... Ok, a few players off the top of my head:

- Patrick Dahlheimer (Live)

- Josephine Wiggs (Breeders) - Remember the opening bass riff to their song "Canonball"?

- Alex James (Blur) ("Woo Hoo") look for the video.

- I remember seeing David Bowie on SNL on Halloween during the 90's and Gail Ann Dorsey was using her trusty 5. Reeves Gabrels stole the show though; just incredible playing on his part.

- Joe Lally (Fugazi). He used an old Stingray exclusively for their first 4-5 albums.

- Flea

- Rex Brown from Pantera used one for a while

- Eric Wilson (Sublime), although, then he started using that custom green bass (not sure of the maker)

Thanks for this thread. I'm 24 so was slightly young for the early 90's stuff but got into it just after the 90's finished. I can't help but get a big stupid grin on my face when I hear the sort of songs mentioned in this thread - so many great memories associated with them.

For me, I would turn up to every party with a crate of beer, the first rage against the machine album and blood sugar sex magic and I knew I'd have a great night.

I didn't even know they both used stingrays on those records until recently - maybe thats what subconsciously made me know it was the right weapon for me.

If there is any band that could be said to have inspired the entire 90's "movement", it would be The Replacements. Their 1984 landmark album "Let It Be" was a HUGE influence on many of the the 90's bands. One of Frank Black's (Pixies) all-time most influential albums.

Pixies would be another band that influenced the entire 90's scene. "Surfer Rosa" and "Doolittle" are INCREDIBLY important albums that influenced scores and scores of 90's bands, and continue to do so today.
