I use 10's on my luke
i love 10's sounds and feeling but i love of 9's also for the B and E strings
i'll try custom set 9/46
if i don't love it i'll continue on 10's

The Hybrid Slinky set is awesome. As stated, it really is the best of both worlds.

I've been primarily using 09's for years.

Now, as my main guitar is Morse, and it has a rather stiff feeling because of the way the bridge is, I found that to get my silo closer to the Morse feeling-wise it made more sense to string it with 10's. Tonewise, however, I feel that the silo lost a bit of it's shine and quackiness with 10's. Nothing dramatic, but noticeable.

Also, I have had some guitars in which the truss-rod was not working 100% the way it should, and I could not get rid of the buzz on the 09-ers, so the only solution was to give the neck more physical tension by putting 10's on it.

Ernie Ball makes some very fine strings ... perhaps it's not fair to advertise some other brands on the EB forum ...

Personally, I am not sure that the tolerance of manufacturing allows to do an extra gauge between 9 and 10.

I couldn't agree with you more. I tried not to give a name until I was asked. Actually the difference between the 9 and 10 is insignificant, but it becomes quite noticeable on the D, A, & E strings.

My name dropping response has been deleted out of extreme respect to Ernie Ball Strings.

Jimmy Page played 8's live. EVH always played 9's actual it was a 9-40 set. He had tiny low strings, and his tone was well the most recognizable tone in the past 30 years. I started out on 9's then I moved up to tens so i didn't seem like a wimp. Recently I got 9.5's and loved them. So I figured movin back to 9's is no difference. I went out and bought 5 sets of super slinky's. WHy make it harder on myself? I'm not in a band anymore so I got no one to impress but me.

I have used the david gilmour set 10 - 50 and the eric johnson set 10- 52 they werent to bad gauge wise , but i always go back to the regular or power slinkys. except on my strats i like the lo tunes that are 11 15 19 28 38 58 i just think they sound better on those. but i will keep regulars slinkys on my Y2J I use that all the time anyway.
