I just got a JP6 and swapped out the 10's for some Ernie Ball 9's. I am much happier. Has anyone else done the same thing or am I just wimpy?

I can't speak for the JP6 but I changed the 25th to 9s and thought I liked it but I am back to 10s and to my ear there is a marked difference in tone and resonance. I'll be sticking with 10s.

i went to 9's on my JP6. previous owner used 10's. the nut slots seem to take some abuse with the bigger strings and heavy trem use. no loss of tone here. Mr. JP has used 9's in the past. go with what works for you.

Why not try Hybrid Slinkys? Best of both worlds :)

They are my personal favorite.

I have been using Super Slinkys (9s) ever since I started playing in the 80s. I only recently strung my Sub-1 with 10s because I have been tuning it to C# for Sabbath songs. For E standard tuning, I gotta go with 9s.

Hey, I was in a Sabbath Tribute band for a long time and I always kept a guitar in C Sharp for all of our Masters of Reality, Volume IV, Sabotage and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath material.

However, I just got the Morpheus Drop Tune and I totally love it. As a matter of fact I am thinking of blocking the trem on the JP6 to dive only. Then I can go to Drop D easily, play in C Sharp or do any tuning I want with one guitar!

You should check it out!

Romania ...that's a country ...in Europe :))
last summer when I got the JP I wanted to change to 9's cause I was used with the 9's on my Ibanez guitars.
after a month i got used with the 10s in such a way that now I do not like at all the feel and sound of 9's. it's a huge difference I would say , with 10's you have a more powerfull heavy sound, and they are still thin enough for fast shredding stuff and easy bendings
try what's best for you, but think about what I said :)

LOVE the Morpheus Drop Tune pedal. Great for coverband situations.

I am a big guy. A big guy. 6'3 280. So for me the floating trem and 9's were simply not doing it for me at all when I had my JP. I needed more grip and tension to make it feel right.

Though I've always been a fan of 9's on my LP, I've moved on to 10's now. I left my JP with 10's and I use 10's (RPS Slinks) on my 25th.

if you play a lot of legato stuff, like lh hammer ons and pull offs, or tapping, 9s might be better for you. I like 10s because I do a lot of jazz and used to heavy 11s on my jazz archtop. i also find with lots of alternate and sweep picking, the 10s work better. Go for whatever make you play comfortably

I don’t own a JP but I’ve used 9’s for as long as I can remember. What are these 10s you speak of.

Whenever I have bought a guitar I’ve always added in a pack of Slinky 9s. I must try the coated next time. I hear good things about them.

9s work great on my JP. I prefer 9s because for me personally I have more control over vibrato and the action is just that fraction of an inch closer. :D
