I totally hear you, Steve. I've done a fair share of mixing live and in the old analog tape studios, and nothing can be as frustrating as trying to get a decent stage mix in smaller venues. I once did sound for Vassar Clements' band in a dime-sized Aspen club, with the Coasters opening. Lord have mercy on my soul, that was a tough one. They should shoot the man or woman who designed the club.

I also hear that the EB Wha may be a neat extension of my style. Thing is - I've been totally antii-effects/purist for nearly ever, with only short lived rounds with pedals and processors... Bleccchh... Well, that's changed since picking up a certain modded Maxon OD9, just months ago. It's shot me into another style, and it's all about smooth and creamy. Sorry for being long winded, but the short of is - solely from the clips I've heard, the EB wha has a very similar vibe of smooth and creamy. So it might be a great match, or it may be too much of a good thing? Guess there's only one way to find out, huh..

My young'un emailed, wanting to know what to get dad for father's day. Thinkin' maybe a Line6 Tone Port UX2 (that's a whole 'nother thread), but then an EB Wha might be way cool...hmmm

My last go 'round with a wha (hope BP doesn't mind me talking of it here) was a Budda wha. Imo, an excellent product all around. In fact, it was too good, or maybe too dynamic and hi-fi for me. As "good" as it was, I sold it in a couple weeks. Weird lot, we guitar players. :rolleyes::)

I get my fix (EBMM stuff) from our forumite Mick's shop, Mick's Guitar Center in Landshut. Being on the forum, I guess he preordered the Wah from the German distributor even before they knew it was coming out :rolleyes:

I've had a few wah's over the years. I never really liked any of them too much. I'd goof around when I got 'em but then they'd collect dust (some would suck the tone out of my setup too).

But this EB Wah is just magical. I can get the wah effect that I've always wanted but never managed with other pedals. It was worth every penny. You can play a nice clean sound through it, add some wah, and you still have tone.. it doesn't sound like a rubber band. The character of your amp/setup still is preserved, not thinned into oblivion.

Can you tell I love this silly pedal? :D

Well I got to try mine out, it's my first real wah, my other one was part of my Line 6 Short Board.

Ok I just got finished messing around with mine for like 1/2 an hour. Its built like a brick sh$t house thats for sure, nice work guys!! I really like it, with my Tech 21 Trademark 10 it sounds excellent.

Ahh... that's true. It's usually the drummer who does that. Heh. But I think that's still a minor thing. You can always tweak the volume on the amp mid-gig. I prefer to keep the volume pedal as an effect pedal.

Also, sometimes I use it to actually play more quietly... dynamics! I know the rage these days is to compress any trace of dynamics into oblivion, but some of us still employ dynamics as an attribute of music. Think Peter Gabriel-era Genesis.

I know what you're talking about regarding dynamics... Heh. I love playing with low gain and sometimes using just fingers to get that picking dynamic down. But don't you usually use the volume knob for this? Especially if you've got a treble bleed circuit built in? That's the way I'd do it.

Different strokes for different folks though.:D

my volume pedal is never maxxed out. My foot is permanently on the volume pedal to make adjustments when i add distortion etc. I run volume AFTER the distortion/overdrive effects so that I can get high gain and be able to lower the volume. I have constant stage level issues, playing in theatre shows.

Adding wah has always been an issue for me as wah always adds a percieved volume jump - a combined vol/wah would be fantastic.. but wouldn't really work for me as often my volume is sitting at half. That's because i like the extra head room for when i add delay and want to do creepy volume swells etc and you need the extra volume due to the decaying note.

I never touch the volume knob on a guitar except to ensure that it's all the way up. I think the effect of using the volume pot to alter the tone is too unpredictable from one guitar to the next, so I am reluctant to rely on that technique for my sound.

I envy all you guys who have figured it out, though! It amazes me to watch some players tweaking all the pots on the guitar and flicking pickup switches every other measure. I just never felt a need to incorporate those things into my playing. Perhaps I've never played well enough for it to make a difference! :D

Glowing review, Steve. You've stated my reservations perfectly. Had to laugh at "rubber band". Makes me think 70's porn - NOT that I ever watched that stuff.
