Hey folks....

I know I'm not as frequent a poster as I used to be, but I still consider many of you my friends - and this whole community an incredible bunch of folks. For that reason, I thought I'd share some bad news - not so much for sympathy, but for support.

My dad lost his battle with Alzheimers today. He's been fighting it for about 3 years, and was only 66. To make matters worse, his brother died last week, and the memorial is also on Saturday. Definitely not a good year....

The message? Go home and hug your families for me. Life is precious - enjoy it while it lasts....
Mike

Mike,

So sorry to hear about your father. That's a loss I can't imagine. If there's any bright side, perhaps it would be that you no longer have to watch him decline as the Alzheimer's worsened. Thoughts and prayers to you and your family.

Mike My Dad died from Lewy Bodies disease which is a combo of Alzheimers and Parkinsons. I understand how you feel. To see your father lose his dignity along with his mind is just really harsh. My thoughts are with you my friend.

Thanks so much guys. I really appreciate the thoughts and support...

BP, you are so right. It's extremely tough. I don't remember if I heard what your dad died from, and although late, my condolences to you as well. These diseases are terrible. Not only do they torture the victim, but they make it hard for the family to remember their loved ones the way they want to...before the disease took hold.

Thanks again to all,
Mike

My condolences!

Hey Mike.

I don't know you, nor do I think I've even made postings in threads you have... but I wanted to tell you I feel for you, and hope you can find your way back into the swing of things. It's never easy. I had my share of bad news last year, and I know totally where you're coming from.

From Canada, sending our thoughts and love, dig?

My condolences on the loss of your father and uncle. I too am one affected by the terrible Alzheimer's disease via my Grandfather's sickness (he also had heart problems and Parkinsons). I lived my whole early life w/ my mom, brother, and Grandparents. My Grandfather was my true dad and to see the strong head of the family slowly return to an infantile stage and lose their minds was tough and emotionally draining. During one of his sane moments he said he wished he had a gun so he could end the pain he was putting us through. I still get chocked up talking about it. Let me know if I can be of any help.

Thoughts, prayers, sympathy, condolences, love to you Mike.

I lost my father not long ago. It's tough.

I'm giving my family an extra big hug. Good suggestion. Thank you for that reminder to cherish what we have.
