Hi, all! I've been a sometimes member over at the Petrucci forums as virtuousdisciple, and I've been the owner or a Pearl Redburst Petrucci 6 string since late last Spring. I had a few problems I tried to deal with then, and I think there are still some things that need work on it. I've noticed that pulling up on my tremolo, the note i've fretted starts distorting. It sounds as if my finger is right over the fret, if that helps. It seems to be either at a step and a half or two steps. Also, on the B and high E strings, i can only pull up about a whole step. I'm not sure if this is related, but these strings also seem to take on an annoying buzz when i bend them.

I'm not sure if this is normal, but my trem bar seems to hit something and made a thumping noise soon after being pushed or pulled. When I looked at the trem claw to see if i could balance my bridge, based on some advice I'd read here, I noticed I also have a noticable hole in both the wood and finish directly above the center of the middle spring. This is obviously rather distressing, as I can't imagine what would have caused it. I don't think the back of the guitar has been opened, unless the store I bought it from did some bridge setup.

Finally, I have had 9s on this guitar, which led me to believe that could have caused some of these problems. I think I've balanced the trem, though I'm not sure, and I still am having problems. I was told that it was made for 9s and they gave it to me with those, so that's what I've used. Supposedly with 10s the G string can't intonate properly...though I believe otherwise based on what i've read here. The first time I changed the strings myself I took them all of at once since I didn't know any better, so that may have also caused some of my problems. I'm sorry to have so many complaints and questions at once, but I really love a lot about this intrument, and I want to make it work for me like I think it can. I really appreciate your help, and I hope I can be a positive member of the forums here. Thanks a lot.

I don't know about the trem issue. Mine (the 3 I own) never had an issue. I do know that the guitar comes out the factory with size 10's on 'em. I have one with 9's on it and it works just fine. I have another with 11's. So, the string size is not really an issue. Set up would be I think. As for your other problems, someone with more knowledge than me should be along shortly to answer that for you.

The hole you are concerned about is just a tooling hole. Nothing to worry about.

Thanks, Jon. It's quite a relief to know that there isn't a tremendous problem with the body. If my other problems are indeed setup related, then I'd really like to know how to fix them. There isn't much documentation with the guitar, and the MusicMan FAQ seems to have been taken down. Jon, do you think all of my other problems are to do with the setup? I'm considering sending it in, because I really don't know how to deal with all of this, and I'm not confident in my ability to make major adjustments.

It does sound like set up issues, and if you would like to send it in so I can evaluate it, pls call 1 866 823-2255 for a return authorization number.

Thanks a lot! I'll do that tomorrow, as the line is closed already today. I appreciate your help, and I look forward to having a fully functional MMJP.

Oh man! The "pimp" job......jeez, my JP's are sooooo darn nice, I can't find a reason to send it in for the "pimp" job. You sir, are lucky. Jon will make that axe play by itself.....I know, I played OC's and it rocks!

I'll be giving a review of the pimp job on my Petrucci in the next couple of days.

It should be here either today or tomorrow. Dan called last Thursday and said it was on its way back. Oh yeah...

LOL! Thanks, Jon. I'm honored. I can't wait to hear about your pimp job, fsmith. My Petrucci is drool-inducing by default of its finish and body, so having equal playability is just mindblowing. I already want at least two more, another six and a seven when I can afford it, but I might get to the point where I can't play anything but Music Man guitars if I can get them all to play the way it sounds like they can. The Morse looks so great, as well... :D
