Pics from Saturday afternoon.

The red Bongo, of course, kills.

This was prior to the gates opening, when the throng outside came storming in.

One pickup seems like just about enough to me these days.

I think he's saying something about "cheese", given the shape of his mouth, and he's not happy about that cheese, either.

It's art, baby.

As we were setting up, there was a helicopter out in the middle of the field. Kids were being given tours, that sort of thing.

But then they decided they were going to actually fly away in it, and they did.

They did give us prior warning, so we turned things backwards and covered stuff with blankets and so on, which was about 99% unsuccessful.

Nothing like being hot and sweaty (it was 103 degrees or so) and then being covered with dust and grass clippings. I was so COMFY after that.

I have been to Dallass in the summertime. Gigged there for a whole week in July/August and I cannot for the life of me come to grips with why anyone would chose to live there. I was born and raised in New Orleans, the birth jazz and all that cool vibey S#!+ but I left as soon as I was old enough to and never looked back. Gimme 4 seasons or at least an occaional break from the 103 days. You are a better man than me. But you knew (or thought) that already.:p

I LIVE in Dallas and I ask myself the same thing every summer! We have two seasons - hot, and DAMN hot! One of these days I will make the escape back to the civilized world . . . . . :D :D :D :D

Did the gig pay well?

Oh, NOW you just want to rub it in, don't you? No, it did not. We did it because it was local, promised to provide good exposure and because we'd rather play than not.

The stage was decent and the sound crew was excellent...but no, we won't be doing that again.

Reminds me of a gig we did last Friday. This was the 2nd time we played at this club, and they ended up screwing us both times (to the tune of $40 a man)...needless to say, we'll NEVER be playing at that establishment ever again! We have several other places around where we can make about 6 times that amount!

I don't mind doing a freebie for a good cause every now and then....but not when it's over a 100 degrees and helicopters are taking off 50 yards from the stage and so on.

But you got the one time experience and surely had some fun.
