Hey everyone. My name is Dj Jazzy Death and I used to enjoy candle lit dinners, watching the Life Time Network with pint of mint chocolate chip ice cream, and long walks on the beach. Then I bought a Music Man Sterling H/S and I'm ready to explode the hearts of small children with my raging low end. These basses are so sick and I didn't even know they existed until this past weekend.

I went to GC to pick up a Fender Jazz bass. My friend pointed out the Sterling which I thought was going to be another great sounding Sting Ray with an impossibly fat neck. I was obviously very wrong. It took be about 20 seconds to decide it was made for me and I walked it straight up to the counter. What an amazing piece of machinery. It's good to see an online community devoted to discussing the quality of these instruments... especially considering the Ernie Ball site by itself doesn't give much detail. It took me forever just to find out I have what is called an "H/S"! Here's a picture:

It has the 5 position tone switch which I hear is less common than the 3 position. I feel like i'm going to spend days getting all sorts of tones out of it. If anyone has advice as to how to keep this bad boy mint it would be much appreciated. Or, if there's a more specific name to the model that would be appreciated too. The guys at Guitar Center don't have a clue about basses really. But we're used to that i suppose because... well, we're bassists.

We're going to get along. My particular sickness is Bongos, but I understand you.

You know all those problems in Kenya right now? I started that with a single humbucker Bongo. Don't let that get out, though. I used to go to church, too.

That is, indeed, what you have there. A Sterling HS. (It's going to become more complicated soon - there's a Sterling 5 now. But let's not worry about that just yet.) The five position switch is standard on dual pickup basses. Three is standard on the single pickup basses.

That's a pretty one. Deadly and beautiful.

Welcome to the forum. I'm Jack.

happy daze

Hey DJ, Beautious Bass you got there, Congrats and it's one of Big Poppa's hot picks too, just guessing about keeping her mint, but the word is that EB Wonderwipes are the hot item and from what I've heard, don't be loaning her to Jack cuz he likes to test his new basses for durability by bouncing them off a hardwood floor after a gig:D
Welcome to here and glad to know you finally got smart about watching the news, but good luck on continuing to unmess your head with that fine instrument, my best recommendations: don't give up ice cream "cold turkey" keep your health together and stay away from strokes and rehab hospitals
all the bass,
/PL:)

welcome,
As Pzo said the wonderwipes are a great way to keep your bass clean and smell fruity.

Very sweet bass, dude! I had the identical experience as you about 4 months ago, w/ the identical bass (nat/maple/HS), at a GC as well. Problem was I didn't have the proper fundage at the time, so I got me a (very) used single H for about half the price. Couldn't be happier, but I'm still lusting after that HS - especially after seeing your pic. I may have to go back to GC and see what they've got going on these days Sterling wise...

Anyhoo, congratulations, welcome aboard, and say hello to the Fresh Prince of Darkness.

Thanks everyone! I'm a big fan of natural wood on basses... it makes it look heavier, which is great for me because I'm not the most buff dude in the world. So it will help create the illusion of super human strength.

It plays very well but I actually haven't run it through my own rig yet. After work today though I'm heading to my practice space to finally "have my way with her". I did try it at GC through an Ampeg 6x10 with an SVT Classic head. i'm currently using an Ampeg 1540 (looks like an 8x10 but has 4x10's on top and 1x15 on the bottom) and an SVT-4 Pro head. Not quite the same magnitude of the SVT Classic but the 1540 I'm sure will give it the low end boost that I wasn't getting out of the 6x10.

But nah, I'm not quitting ice cream quite yet... After all, I still have a day job for the time being before acheiving rock super stardom. And Bovinehost... no worries about the Kenya thing. My drummer grew a third leg to play the triple bass drum and inadvertently caused all that commotion in the middle east. He say's he's very sorry.

DJ,

I forgot to ask, do you have any idea how much your HS weighs? The one thing I absolutely love about my Sterling H is that it weighs (according to my very scientific method of standing on a scale w/ & w/out the bass) a mere 7.5lbs. I'm curious if that extra S p/u adds some weight...

I'm sure you'll report after playing her through your rig. Turn it up to 11.

Beautiful bass - nice choice - crank it!

Take a look in the FAQ section ... lots of info there in terms of care, adjustments etc..
