Ok, I'll stop thinking of the refinishing her. She's is too damn cool the way it is. I got inspired by Musicman Nut's killer orange sparkle a couple of days ago and thought refinishing was the way to go. But I've come back to my senses, thanks guys.

It will be in GC's "pawn shop hold" for a couple of weeks as they do when they get used gear in Colorado. Here are a couple more cell phone pictures I took of her.

Yes, those are my pale chicken-legs under the bass. I know I need more sun... and muscle.

I tried to get the bridge and serial number. The grime and dirt were include at no extra charge.

Its a classic "old rocker for a hard rockin road bass" Keep it the way it is, dried on beer and junk food only add to its persona . Could that be a jalepeno seed stuck to the bridge ?

Fantastic - what a lovely bass. As you say, a very early SR5 (numbers start around 50011 for thhe regular ones?)

I concur with the others - please don't refinish it. What's it sound like and is it very heavy?

The strings were pretty dead when I was playing it in the store, but the sound was there. Even with the old dead strings, it was warm and deep. The bite will come back with new ropes.

I won't have it home for a couple more weeks when I can properly weigh it, but I'd guess it was around 10 lbs. I compaired it to a brand new SR5 they had in the store and it felt like it weighed about the same.

yup.. the first 10 bridges can be found on the 20th anniversary sr5 in pacific blue burst. only 10 were made and they had saved the 10 first bridges for that special occasion :)

as for the bass, i wouldnt touch it at all.. leave the grime in there.. it will just add to its character :)

I know what you mean. I hate asking the band what key a song is, followed by asking which string that note sits on...

Great bass full of history!!

I have a 88 SR4 full of scars and I´m going to leave it like that.

Your SR5 should be kept as it is IMHO - Great find!!!

It will be another week and a half before I can pick it up. The first thing I'll do take the dead ropes off, give it a long overdue cleaning and put some Slinkys or Cobalts on it. The rosewood board is grimey and need some conditioner, but that's about all I'll do - then start gigging the heck out of it. I'll post some more pics when I get it home.
