i dont know if any of you read bass player, but there was a small artical in it about matt freeman having lung cancer. i dont know about you guys, but this man was the reason i started playing bass. they caught it in its early stages and he will be off tour so that he may undergo treatment.

woah! i had no idea. i love Matt ... he's an amazing bassist. thanks for letting me know dude .. my prayer will definately be with him. Matts not the reason i started playing bass but he is the reason ive kept playing the bass over the years. just one of those guys you listen to and think "well, ill never be that good but ill try".

for those unfamiliar with Matt hes been the bassist for:
basic radio
operation ivy
downfall
dancehall crashers
generator
rancid
social distortion (just on recent tour)
X (tho i think he played guitar in X)
transplants
(and a psychobilly band i forget the name of)

the man is a God and like jubjub said hes the best punk bassist ever

that is sad, my best wishes are for him.

he is an incredible player, you guys are right he is probably the most outstanding punk bassist I can think of.

Though I'm more of an old school punk fan, I love Klaus Flouride of Dead Kennedys and Daryl Jenifer of Bad Brains. Awesome players and big innovators of punk bass. Killer tone too!!

You guys should know this...When I first heard Arin(phatduckk) playing, I was totally reminded of Matt Freeman. Mr. Duckk rocks.

i guess if the guys in rancid were less hardcore and matt decided to stop playing we could make a good recomendation for a replacement

i dont know Matt but I know a bunch of folks that have known him for years n years ... its a crazy subject to pop up so im not gonna flat out ask but if Matt comes up in conversation i'll get the latest info and keep you guys posted.

sounds like they caught it in time (hopefully)

random story ... Matt started playing the Mandolin (im pretty sure it was the mandolin) to help him quit smoking a little while ago. He figured carrying around a small instrument he could keep his hands busy and that would help kik the habbit.

nice to know theres a bunch of people out there wishing him the best.

thanks for the compliment buddy :)

mental note: total bribe owed to Jon = 5 beers.

and to those that dont know: Jon holds the world record for most drinks owed. at current count he can redeem free drinks in 36 different counties ... if Texas counts as a country that would make 37

can't wait to meet you and all the other cool folk on this board at the open house
