So, in regards to the maple fingerboard-equipped EBMM guitars (particularly the Silhouette Special and the AL), are the maple fingerboards a different piece of wood glued to the neck, or is it a one-piece neck/fingerboard setup?

I believe it's a single piece of wood and the fingerboard is removed to insert the truss rod then replaced.

I think he's comparing it to another brand of guitar whose maple necks are one, uncut piece.

No, Music Man guitars have a separate fingerboard. The wood is indeed a single piece to start and is cut by magic to some cutting tool of zero inches in width. Then the fingerboard piece is glued back in place.

I once thought that it was a single piece myself, and I think I asked in a post a few years ago.

Hey yeah Jack - I asked the same question too!!

Here's the answer from the EB web site

Q: How is the trussrod inserted into a maple neck? Is it one piece of wood?

A: When we make a solid maple neck, the neck is cut horizontally lengthwise, routed for the trussrod, the trussrod is inserted. Then the neck is carefully glued back together so it is barely detectable that it was ever apart.
