Well thats easy the BFR AL is the best, but on a standard both the single coil and the mm-90 version are great as well, one day soon I will be ordering an AL mm-90 with peizo.

Better there is not, only different there is hhmmm

Ok, yoda voice aside, the MM90's are very well voiced and not quite as hot as the old gibson P90's or say a Rio grande Bluesbar like I had in my Reverend. So they clean up real nice as singles and are more than a one trick pup. They don't get quite as sweet as the standard AL singles, they are always a bit ballsier :) , but they can handle mellow single coil through blues through classic rock crunch. They are very versatile and cover a lot of territory.

There are some good reviews and descriptions in this thread.

Either way you can't go wrong

Understand what you seek, and find it you will hhmmm

I have the SSS & MM90 AL's.

Personally I always go back to the SSS - great clean pickups but whack them through a blues overdriver for example and they dirty up and sustain very well.

The MM90's are hotter but still deliver the cluck and quack of the SSS (back off the volume back off the tone too and as already said they are not one trick ponies and cover a whole assortment of tones very well. The tone and volume controls have a great effect on the AL guitars which is more than can be said of a certain other make of American Guitar that I own which seems to be all or nothing - that's not to say that I'm rubbishing that guitar (cos if I did I'd sell it)

Try em both if you can.

Let us know what you choose?

I also love my sss AL, but I have to admit.....I`m jonesin` for an MM90 AL possibly with trem and maple fretboard.
I love the sound & feel of my AL so much......I can`t give you a comparison as I`ve never played an MM90 model, but I can`t imagine that it wouldn`t sound anything short of great. If you are a strat guy, the singles would be the way to go. Like a fatter woofier tone, do the MM09s. Either way you have a great guitar!

And just to think a few years ago the AL didnt sell in anywhere like the volumes it seems to now. Thats an example of the power of us Knuckleheads! ;)

I see an Al SSS in the near future for me!

Since I know you have 2 Petrucci's I will tell you that my guess is you'll like the MM90's better. More grit.

I have both and agree they both are worthy of a place in the stable, that said if you lean towards rock and metal, go with the mm90's.

Hope this helps.
