Ok, so it may not be quick.

I just took a new country gig. I had to learn somewhere around 50 country covers in about two weeks. I learned all but five. So for my first gig with the new band, the old bass player (who came to the show) played the tunes I didnt know.

He used my rig, which that night was the black sparkle SR5. GK700RB-II to a couple Bergantino ER 1x12s. Hes been playing another brand of bass for a while, and has been content. However, after playing my SR5 live, he has decided that hes going to pick one up for himself. When he left the stage he told me he was a believer in the MusicMan basses.

I felt like that was a pretty good testimonial

Travis, I was just thinking back to 2002 or so in San Antonio and how none of the World Famous San Ant Bassists had any EBMM basses. Then I picked up a black sparkle SR4 relatively cheap from someone off the "old defunct bass forum"....and it was shocking. The strings were WAY off the board; I really could have shot arrows with it. My first thought was, "This thing has been through the wars and this asshat offed it on me."

Without really fooling with it, I emailed the guy and asked him if maybe he'd loosened the truss rod for shipping (dumb, but some people do it). He said, "I never touched that truss rod. Don't know how, wouldn't dare try it." Well, okay - but didn't he still think the bass was a DOG and he still offed it on ME? I don't know - maybe. It was hard to imagine that bass had made anyone happy, exactly.

But a fresh set of strings and a truss rod adjustment later (it was so loose that I initially thought it was broken), it was fine. In fact, it was more than fine. It killed. And I made the San Antonio Club play it whenever possible, and thus began the Great Purchasing Flurry of 2003 (Ray and Chuck).

Isn't it fun to watch the lights come on?

Found a photo. That's it between Heinz and the Orange Sr4.

I have a quick story along the same lines. Few months ago i sat in with my dads band with my Ice Blue Bongo... played through the bass players Hartke rig. After my songs bass player asked if he could play the Bongo a few songs. Of course i let him. He was amazed! Come to a few weeks ago, he decided to pickup a Blue SB14 which he is playing full time, and he still sends me messages asking if i want to move the Blue Bongo. Too bad it is not for sale! JOSH
