Anybody play their stingray through a Trace 715X? I was trying out combos and wound up ordering the Trace. I really liked Eden but the salseman at Sam Ash really turned me off. What's the dirt on Trace Elliot? Thanks

Back in the day, I really liked the Trace Elliot stuff, both the sound and the construction. I haven't kept up with them, though, so I don't know if they are still as good as they used to be.

I'm using MarkBass now.

We sell Trace where I work, and the new stuff is great. I think you made a good choice.

In this day and age, it's getting a lot harder to make a bad decision when choosing an amp. So many companies are making killer stuff.

The half-interested sales-kid just blew me off. I told him I wanted to order the 2-12 combo Eden, the one with the tilt back feature. The kid, who looked like a bad Slipknot imposter, didn't help with selection at all and, after I called him back twice, never even found out about availability. So, it was off to Guitar Center. I'm sorry to be old fashioned but the Mark Bass sounded OK, but really felt like a toy. That's why I ruled it out. I was really excited about the Aguilar... till I tried it. Not my type of sound. The sound I really want is my 1970 Vibrolux but at 300 watts. So, I hope the Trace combo will work. I will let you guys know how my first gig goes when I get the amp. Thanks.

Check out this topic - http://www.ernieball.com/forums/music-man-basses/26096-trace-gear.html?highlight=Trace+Elliot

There might be some useful info. I myself own a prebankrupcy Trace Elliot full stack

AH300-12 EQ + 2X10 + 1X15 cabs

I haven't tried their new gear. But the specs look pretty much the same. They only improved the design, and switched to vinyl instead of dark green carpet covering that my cat likes that much :)

Same Celesion Speakers custom made for Trace Elliot.

As for me Trace Elliot is on the the best and most flexible transistor amps on the market. 5 button footswitch, Compression, 12band graphic EQ and Emphasis option are really useful. Really mild footswitchable valve drive is also very cool. It's not probably the best amp for loud metal music, but if you don't need to kill a couple of hundred people each gig with your bass sound, then try it out.

Mine is 300Watts, but they only make 500W and 1000W heads nowadays, you can simply kill at least a dosen per show with those 500 Watts I'm sure.

If you don't like Celesions, then try combining Trace Elliot Head with some other cabs from different brand, they sound killer!

i love my 4x10, 1x15 prebankrupcy speakers. the speakers were awsome. thier amps were a little to r&b sounding for my taste.

Mesa Boogie Walkabout Scout!

I just picked up one of these and it is extemely impressive.
Incredible build quality, deep, loud, room filling, "tubular" tone.
I dropped in a new pair of TungSol tubes and it's the best combo
I've ever heard.

I originally purchased the 2x10 MarkBass combo but returned
it. Nice combo, light and loud but I did not like the tone - I tried
every possible setting but still found it very dry and "sterile" (IMO).

The Scout would be unbeatable if it were 10lbs lighter & $2-300 cheaper.
Mute and tuner out would be nice too!

The last couple of MM basses that Ive had, as well as the SR5 I have on the way will be played through this:

IM000221.jpg

Its an early markIV GP 11 combo, Its loud, clean, super easy to service, and like all of the old Trace gear has "that sound" that I love. Its super old, but ill probably play it till it kills over. Unfortunately there are plenty of peavey dealerships around here, but none of them plan to stock the new stuff. (I guess because its so expensive) Im dying to try it and see how it compares to the old stuff. Slightly off topic, but that sterling in the pic (actually I dont have either of those basses anymore) was one of the best feeling instruments Ive ever owned Ive gotten it back once already I hope I cross paths with it again someday.
