I can't offer any money for support as I barely have any as it is, BUT, I offer you and your wife my thoughts and prayers. I'm glad to see that things are looking up! Good luck! BP...wow, how is it that ANYONE would buy from anywhere else with the class that goes on with you and this company?
I wanted to give everyone a little update on Rochelle's progression. Tonight we are having a head shaving party at our church for Rochelle. She will be starting chemotherapy next Monday and she didn't want to experience her hair falling out so she decided to shave it before that happens. Well, her best friend did not want her doing it alone so she has said that she is going to shave her head too and then her oldest daughter said she wanted to as well. Before all of this was planned, I had already planned on shaving my head just to support my wife. Well, from there, her employer stepped in along with several employees and they are all shaving their heads too. My wife works as an EMT so that was really cool to see her fellow co-workers support her like that. That includes the owner of the company as well. Our kids are also shaving their heads too. Our daughter wants to shave her head but I admit I was the kill joy on that one. We compromised and Haley is going to get some of her hair cut short like maybe to shoulder length for Mom.
What's cool is almost everyone that is shaving their heads is part of our Relay for Life team. The walk is this Friday and Saturday so we are hoping that with so many members of our team participating in the relay with shaved heads, it will really make a statement and help raise awareness. We are hoping that the people that see all of the beautiful bald people walking will come and ask questions. Not just at the relay bit in whatever we are doing the rest of the time.
Finally, we got some more good news today. About 3 weeks ago, Rochelle had a genetics test done to determine if she had a high risk of getting breast cancer again in the other breast and/or ovarian cancer. The genetics test is called the BRAC 1 and BRAC 2 genes. If one or both test positive, then a woman has a 70% chance of getting breast cancer and if the other gene tests positive, then the woman has a 64% chance of ovarian cancer. The risk is so high, many insurances will cover double mastectomies and/or hysterectomies even if the woman is not diagnosed with any cancer. Unfortunately, most tests are not done until after cancer is found. Since both tests came back negative, we are praising God for that!
Tonight at the head shaving party, we will have our local paper doing a follow up report. Last week our local paper came out and interviewed my wife. They actually made it the front page story. We are in a small town but that was still cool to see. In it, we also told of what the EBMM company and Bass Central as well as many of the members from this site has done for us. When the paper came out and did the interview, they only mentioned both companies names briefly but I am hoping to maybe have a little more said tonight. My family is so grateful for everyone's prayers, thoughts and help.
Thanks again,
Jay
Thanks everybody! Rochelle and I are back at home with freshly shaved domes! We could not believe the turn out. People showed up that we didn't even know. Some people showed up and got their heads shaved because they had loved ones who had either gone through cancer treatment or were going through it. We were going to keep track of how many people got their heads shaved but there were so many, we lost count. My guess is somewhere between 40 and 50 and maybe even more that that.
I also must say, that my wife doesn't look to bad with a bald head. I don't even know how many pictures were taken but it was a lot! When we get some sent to us, I will post them up on here for you all to check out. I will then do the same thing again this coming weekend after our Relay for Life is over.
We also just found out that the Susan G Komen Foundation is having their relay in Denver in October. I have never done the Susan G Komen walk but I think they also have entertainment that happens during their event so I'm going to see if I can get our band to play it and if I have the Breast Cancer Awareness bass by then, maybe even premier it at that event.
