I recently tried out a couple of 30th Anniversary Stingrays at GC and was impressed with the solid build, tone, and modern methods/materials of construction. A unique SR all the way. Just the same, I have to tell you that I'm the owner of a 20th Anniversary ('96) SR and want to say-in my opinion- what an even finer work of art these basses are. I'm always amazed at the beautiful combination of woods, that ever so subtle laminated wood binding detail between the top and body, not to mention the thin (not narrow) birds-eye neck profile. I've yet to play another SR with a finer neck. It's also relatively light and of course has a the classic Stingray snap- though I will say it's possible that the 30th has deeper bottom tones. To me, the 20th is really a piece of fine furniture, and while not at all criticizing the the 30th, it's just a really unique and special MM bass.

I'm lucky, I own one of each. 
I agree with you about the neck on the 20th, really very nice feel, very playable. However, I prefer the look of the 30th and the tone is just monster. Really no comparison. The 30th is a really very special instrument.
