i remember something like:
"the closest sounding pups you can get from dimarzio are the tonezone for bridge and the air norton for the neck"
i think this was written down on the dimarzio page in the past.

Yes, they are made by DiMarzio but you can only get them on the Axis or EVH guitars. Or from people who remove them from the guitars and sell them.
According to DiMarzio, the Tone Zone - Air Norton pickups are the closest production pickups to those in the EVH/Axis. But I don't think they are anything close. I really think a good set of semi-hot, PAF style pickups would get you closer than the TZ/AN combo.

Though Dimarzio won't sell them to you directly, I'd wager they would answer any questions about technical specs and they're usually pretty responsive to emails.
Well, in Axis - and EVH - has same pu´s as told before, but strangely they sound VERY high-output ones, but that seems that they are not. Also i know the those EVH & Axis Pickups has tremendous kick, but is reason just that that they are tightly screwed into the body?

I had the pleasure of meeting Dudley a few years ago and got to talk to him about guitars and pickups... totally cool guy and one of the nicest people you will ever meet. The thing I remember him telling me about the Axis/EVH pickups was that a major part of "the magic" is the combo of the wood ( Bass/Maple) and how it works the pickups. They really spent a lot of time getting that specific combo dialed in just right...
I have used theTone Zone pickups in another guitar and got close... but they were still a little thin compared to the Axis... It is really just a matter of trial and error when chasing tone...
Give Dimarzio a shout out and see what they have to say....

They are pretty hot, though I've never measured them.
I'm sure being body mounted is part of the recipe.

Just yesterday night, I played my Ibanez RG8470F w/ ToneZone and Air Norton combo through Guitar Rig first, dialed all the settings right, etc. Then I switched over to my EBMM Axis.
With the Axis, I had to slightly increase the input gain to get up to the same input volume as for the RG. So the Axis pickups do seem a little bit less hot than a ToneZone. But not a lot

That's only talking about the output volume of the pickups, not the sound - the RG8470F is a mahogany body with maple top, while the Axis is a basswood body with maple top. Sound-wise, that's a big difference right there.
