Listen guys, a lot of you are asking questions about adjusting your truss rod, bridge saddles, relief, etc, and you should want to learn how to adjust your bass to YOUR preferences.

But twiddling the truss rod without understand what it does is an extremely bad idea, and if you don't know, you should find out.

There are lots of good resources on the net. Read! Read and look at your bass and understand what the adjustments do before you go at it with a screwdriver, okay?

Here's your first resource:

Bass Setup Basics

Do a Google search, there are more out there. Playing the bass well is wonderful, but knowing how to make it respond to your preferences is pretty cool, too.

Now go and be careful.

DUDE!, sick stuff. I like that place. but a quick question. umm...which one applies to the music man..like what's similar in charactoristics..meh.

well, sick site..ya...

How important is it not to adjust the truss rod when the neck is under tension? I've heard pros tell me different stories regarding that. If not under tension - how soon after adjustment should the bass be re-tuned? What's EBs official word?

I've heard various stories about whether or not to adjust the truss rod while under tension. I would err on the side of caution, and in fact that is exactly what I do.

It only takes a minute to loosen the strings and adjust the truss rod. Better safe than sorry.

truss rod

i agree with Bovine, and i would say to stay on the side on caution, but if u've done it a couple of times, i would say that it could do that much harm. Aslong as u have no problems with it now...

But i'm sorta 50/50. but neways, it's not hard to loosen the strings, and adjusting you truss rod allot, is probably not the best thing. I say only adjust it if u change gauge strings, or if it gets off.

ps. I love the MM, the action on my Sterling is like 2mm, and my friends Ergodyne is constantly getting it's neck bowed. it horrible. i'd say we are talking cm in his case. I SWEAR! It's crazy.
