About Sterling 5

Hi, my name is Mauro... I saw the news from ernie ball web site about introducing the Sterling 5 bass...
See, my question is simple... I have a Sting Ray 5, I believe that the hambuker is ceramic magnets, so I was wondering... There really should be any diference from the Sting Ray sound from the Sterling sound? Since both have the same system os pick up switching and ceramic hambuckers?

If I am not misteken, the Sterling 5 has a downsized body and headstock, and slightly narrower and thinner neck (same string spacing). It will also have a teardrop pickguard similar to the 4-string models.

It should be interesting... It´s like Jazz bass and Precision Bass... the JB has a thinner neck than precision.... anyway, I´m looking forward to see it, definitely will be a great bass!

Mauro, I spent some time with the Sterling 5 at the Namm show in Jan.What I get from this bass are elements of the Sting Ray and Bongo.I loved the smaller scale body and neck which felt great either standing or sitting. Before you over think the bass, get out and play one when they hit the stores.

I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) that the Sterling 5 has an ash body, wheras the Stingray has an alder body...ash sounds brighter than alder so it may have a slightly different tone.

Wrong. EBMM is using ash almost exclusively now on Stingrays and Sterlings.

Okay my bad. But older ones could be alder?

Yeah, they used to use a combination but I don't think it had anything to do with the model, only whether it was a trans or solid finish.
