Help! About to buy a JP model... need help !!!

Hy guys !

I am new to this nice forum and I find ther's plenty of good information... but maybe too much for me to make up my mind about what I am goinf to buy !

Here is the thing : I defintely want to buy an EBMM JP model. However, I have troubles choosing between a JPX and a JP BFR.

I have tried a JP BFR Cherry Burst at a local guitar store (on a blackstar amp). You already know all the specs and stuffs, and as everyone would be, I was blown away by the quality of this guitar.
Nevertheless, I could not try a JPX, and I heard some nice things about it (like the chambering which was pretty nice for lead stuff or clean tones).

So, here is my question...

What would you guys recommend knowing that :

I play mostly lead guitar and some clean stuff as well.​

I use a Brunetti MC² amp with a bunch pedal (I have been trying to get close to JP's tones..)​

So, for now, I am hesitating between BFR Cherry Burst, BFR Koa and JPX. Any advise you could give me will be much appreciated !!!

Being lucky to own all 3, I'm going to tell you something you prob don't wanna hear. I like the JPX for clean and piezo. Just sounds nicer to me. The Koa is the biggest and tightest tone of all of them. And the BFR is no slouch. You can't go wrong. If you want some bling, go with the Koa or BFR as they are prettier. But the JPX is quite the guitar. I prefer the 3 way to the five way.

Thanks for your insight. Have you noticed a real difference between the Koa and the Cherry Burst ?
I do really like them both in terms of look, but there's such a price difference between them (1200$ more for the Koa here in France)... Is it just the top that makes it more expensive ? (I couldn't see any other differences in the specs)

The Koa is Mahogany body/neck plus the koa top is a premium wood. The BFR is alder I think. I can live with either if you were to take one away. I got a super deal on my koa, or else I would not own it. I say if it's a stretch, save your money and get the BFR. They are fantastic looking and playing instruments.

I prefer my JPX. I love the tones out of the 5-way blade switch. While the others are "prettier" I dig the color. Pure playability and tone go to the JPX for me. for your reference; I have owned the JPX and JP BFR. I have played, but not owned the Koa. I play similarly to how you describe your style of playing.

I had a chance to try out the X7 and the XI-7. I chose the XI for a few reasons. I play high gain. I have a 5153 and when I demoed a few months back the jpx fed back a bit more (due to the chambering most likely). Also the tone of the XI was a lot tigher under high gain than the X. The X was MUCH better clean though. I tried to compare the sustain but they both sounded the same to me.

Also the 20" radius is noticible compared to the 15 on the X. You can literally get the strings on the deck and not buzz or fret. I like high action on the bass strings so they ring true and low action on the treble. The 20" lets you do a lower setup. Maybe not by much but its there if you need it.

The X played sweet! It was a really hard decision. If I didnt play metal, xtreme, progressive and death metal as much I may have gone with the X. The color does it for me. Ultimatley take a few hours and try to get past everyones rendition of crazy train and enter sandman and spen some time with both. Only you can decide........Im not sure if I helped or not.

Not really a feedback, but tomorrow I'm changing my JP6s for a JP12
I liked the unfinished neck but after 10 years of use they show some wear, without talking about the stress crack on my MD that makes it look like a relic :/
