I'm about to pick up a used Axis with trans purple quilt and birdseye neck, in excellent condition for $1425 out the door. I'd also get about $130 cash back using my credit card. So, essentially around $1300. What do you guys think? This would be my first EB/MM guitar. Am I getting a good deal, an okay deal, excellent deal?

Thanks for the help!

Hmm, I think that's a very fair price and the cash back is a bonus. Although in all fairness, condition plays a big part and if it's a sick quilt, well it'd seem like an even better deal.
Do you have any pics so we can asses the purchase?

Thanks for the reply. I hear you! I'm so on the fence. I kind of like trans gold as well... and well, I've seen aqua blue MM's that are stunning! I could probably wait, if it's just a warm deal, which is why I'd thought I'd check in here.

The pic I have isn't too great... but:

Is it a Tribute? It has a good looking quilt, but it's hard to see in that picture. If it is a Tribute, and in really good shape, that's a pretty good price.

That's not a bad price for an Axis in good shape in general... Especially a purple or other hard to find color

I don't believe it's a tribute... doesn't have the chocolate back. You think there are better deals out there? I do believe that it's in excellent condition though.

What I'd really want is the pink quilt tribute, but can't afford it. :(
Looks like there was someone on another forum selling one in 2012 for $1700... can't find anything now.

Is this in the US? You generally don't have to pay $1400+ for a vanilla Axis or Axis SS, like new, birdseye no matter.

Also, which credit card has 10% cashback?

No chocolate back= no tribute. As soon as you buy it, another great deal will pop up. If purple is not your thing, hold out for what you want.

That looks like the one I've seen that GC has for sale. Really nice figuring on the neck. If there other colors you'd like more then wait for those to pop up. Don't "settle" for this one no matter what. You'll regret it later :).

Thanks for the replies guys. I definitely love the purple. I think the only other color I'd choose over it is the pink, which I haven't been able to find anywhere.

@edhalen, it is the GC one! The neck is really nice isn't it? :)

@uOpt - I've been looking all month, but haven't seen anything for less, in that condition. The one's on Ebay are all beat up and going for over $1k most of the time. All the excellent condition one's are going for $1500+. Craigslist has been a bust. Is there somewhere I'm not looking? As for the cash back. Discover. 5% Cash back from participating retailers, plus 5% cash back until the end of Dec for online purchases. Been a good card for me. From time to time there is also a $100-150 sign up bonus floating around, or $50 sign up bonus from a referral.

Well, it sold while I was making up my mind. :( So bummed. Now I'll have to keep a lookout for the pink model.

Wasn't meant to be. Find the one that really grabs your attention - then buy it! Good luck on the search.

No, I suppose it wasn't. I found a pink Tribute at GC for around $2,135. I managed to get it for $1800, plus tax and shipping it put it at $1,955. I bought it with the intention that I didn't want it to sell while I made up my mind on whether or not it was a good price! :p Figure the 30 day return window would give me enough time to decide on that. But my god I love that color. The only downer is no birdseye on this one.

I'll keep a lookout for a used one in the meantime.

That one is killer. I owned it before Richard and gave it a full set up before I brought it back. Richard is a stand up dude and one of the best you can deal with!
